Just know this , if I look over from the view of my Ranger SuperCab, and see a grown ass man ? in a 4 door Maverick (or Ridgeline or Santa "Hey") then expect to see bewilderment and disappointment if we make eye contact, head shaking ? and pointing ? at what not to do , as I drive off , back to the past(things seem to make more sense to me there )...

and holy cow.... the girl can not stand those Hyundai things. She's truly appalled not only that Hyundai builds them, but that people actually buy them.
When we were in Kauai a few years ago our rental was a Hyundai antra. Yes antra, the 'El' was broken off. It suited that car. That thing was horrible. Rode like crap, no power etc. The wife went to adjust the sun visor and pulled it right off! We just jammed it back on and didn't say anything.

At my house, even the Warden dislikes those baby trsuvck thingys. 100% her opinion with zero influence from me. Not like I ever even mentioned them during my truck shopping time period. More than once she's made a less than complimentary observation about an Accord with the trunk lid omitted option, definitely dislikes the Maverick, and holy cow.... the girl can not stand those Hyundai things. She's truly appalled not only that Hyundai builds them, but that people actually buy them.

Not gonna lie... when I hear her make those comments I cannot help but beam with pride. Smart woman. Smart.

Exactly , but who you gonna look down on if you have a Maverick?
Mostly I see the big guys looking with a little envy as I zip around them as they struggle to park their giant 4 door abominations to go in and grab a sandwich , they have to go in because they can't navigate the drive through radius anymore...

I was cruising AutoTrader on Saturday morning and came across a ā€˜24 Maverick XLT Hybrid with 12 miles on the odometer at a local-ish dealer. Before I bought my Ranger, I was very much in the market for a SUV/truck-like hybrid, but pulled the trigger on the Ranger instead.

Anyways, the dealer let me take it home for the weekend, no strings attached, and now more than ever I’m questioning if I truly need a Ranger, or just want it. The ā€˜truck’ things I’ve used the Ranger for could be handled by the Mav, and really, we get so few days that require AWd/4WD, not having it isn’t a deal breaker for me.

The Mav is nice - yes, hard plastics are abound on the interior - but it isn’t tacky in my opinion. They do scratch just as easily as any other automotive plastic, but unless you’re paying $$$$ that’s what you can expect with any brand. Leg room in the back is, on paper, close to the Ranger. And really, I didn’t buy the Ranger to haul people, rather because SCABs weren’t available by me. So this metric is moot.

Where the Mav beats the Ranger, and a lot of other vehicles, is gas mileage. It gets the as advertised 42mpg. On the Mav forum it seems some folks regularly get 700 miles a tank on 87 octane. While I only put maybe 8k/yr in miles on my truck, it’s always irritating to pay ~$90 for a fill up with 93 octane. I tried 87, but that the ride becomes noticeably more meh.

So in summary, Mavs in person aren’t as terrible as I thought they’d be. ?ā€ā™‚ Curious to hear from anyone who made the switch if you have buyer’s remorse.

Also have been looking at Mavericks and made the move this weekend. Will miss my Ranger but we just purchased 20 acres south of Albuquerque and will be driving there a lot. The hybrid gets much better mileage and rides much better which reduces passenger complaints. Ended up with an XLT hybrid black package in cactus gray. Really nice to drive.

Nice looking truck Brian and I hope you enjoy it and it serves you well. I've seen several of them lately and while they're small they do fill a niche for many and I would definitely give the hybrid a look if/when I were in the market for a smaller truck. Hopefully you'll stick around here and I'm sure the Maverick forum is ok but it's probably full of old guys who are in bed by 8pm. :giggle:?

I'm just sad to see the demise of the extended cab. Maverick should have the option because the bed is too damn small without it. I wouldn't own a crew cab Ranger either, so I guess I'll have to stick with my '21.
Gimme a hybrid AWD Maverick SCAB that can haul 2 tons and I'd be first in line at the dealership.

When I had to settle my parents estate I hauled a great deal of precious family heirlooms from the home to a secure climate controlled storage facility that housed them for a year. I hauled construction materials / paint / sheet rock and tools / equipment to the house to clean it up for sale. I hauled furniture to family members and made many trips to the dump. Their home was 250 miles from mine, and I made more than 2 dozen trips there over 14 months.

My 2020 SCab Ranger saved me a great deal of trips vs my 2005 SCab Ranger. The bed is much deeper, wider, and just as long. It has substantilly more volume.

My daughter purchased a Maverick at my recommendation, and it works well for them. But I would not even consider using the Maverick for this task.

A Maverick has its place in a light duty urban environment. But when you need a truck, you need a truck.

Sidebar
It has been 2 years now, and unless you have experienced it, you have no idea how difficult it is to deconstruct a loved one's home. So many bittersweet memories... That said, it was an honor to do this for my parents.

The way I see it my Ranger bed is too small without much of a load rating so I have a trailer. A Maverick could also handle a small trailer. If it's useed 90% for commuting the Maverick hybrid wins. I just sat in one while at the dealer for the works and it felt very comfortable. It feels about the size of the last generation Ranger.

I think from an interior space perspective it is slightly larger than any model 5G Ranger. The bed is smaller than my 4G SCab Ranger by far.

The Maverick has a legitimate place in the pickup line up.

I believe that the the hybrid version has a 2K trailer capacity. I would not push that limit. That keeps you in the flat trailer w/lawn mower or small aluminum boat category.

The ICE engine version gets you to 4K but you lose the high EPA rating.

Like I said, there is a place for both models. For a lot of people it is a perfect fit.

For me ? I prefer the 5G SCab, then the 4G SCab. I would have a hard time with the Maverick.

My old Isuzu Diesel Pup had more bed space 7.5' Long bed (you had a choice of 6' or 7.5' beds), and I could go over 800 miles between fill ups. 32mpg in town and 40 on the highway. BTW, both the diesel and the gas versions with 5 speed manuals were capable of over 30mpg in town and 40 mpg on the highway. My Diesel was slow, but it proved to be the most reliable truck that I have ever owned. It had over 300K trouble free miles on it (fluid changes only). I sold it to a company that refurbishes them and markets them in South America for $1000 15 years later. That Izusu was a great small truck.

Question for the OP:
How much lower/easier would you say it is to get into vs the ranger height?

For the thoughts on the little mav, my parents at actually looking for a different vehicle as the 2015 escape they currently have is getting pretty tired (285K) my mom wants a Ranger (she loves my truck) but my dad has had numerous stokes in the past five years and he’s still walking, but watching him get in to and out of the Tremor is pretty rough(it would be perfect for them if a ranger was about 6ā€ lower... So thanks to yall I’m going to be guiding my folks towards the Maverick (awd white tremor most likely.?) (we are mainly a ford family ?.) seems like it would be perfect for the bit of lite ranch work my mom still handles and the long drives to the neurologist pops has pretty much once a month now..(heavy sigh) it’s gonna suck when the big guy upstairs calls him up.
Gonna keep him comfortable and in style while he’s still with us.

The height was one of the main reasons I switched. My wife found it very awkward to get in the Ranger, even with the side steps. The Maverick is like sitting in a chair and she sits directly and then swings her feet in.

Thank you, honestly that’s exactly what I was hopeful for. Truckish capability (for mom) and ease of access (for pops)
They do everything together and have been like that for the last 40+ years.
