Hey all so wanted to check if anyone else's 4th gear was a but funny.

Ive driven old cars that clunked their way through gears and the ranger certainly doesn't do that.

However. I've noticed my new to me 2021 does seem to have a delay shifting into and out of 4th gear. To the point that sometimes you end up leaning forward while it waits to find 5th then slides you back in your seat.

It's not always that dramatic but 4th gear seems to be a finicky gear to find for my truck.

Does it do this only in cruise control? My 2009 Mariner will do this n a 5-6 shift if the CC is engaged, but shifts normally otherwise. The fluid is in the normal range and pretty good color so I chalk it up to a controller for the CC. If it is hesitating all the time, that could be low trans fluid, bugged trans software or a valve body.
Are you still under factory or extended warranty? It might just need a reflash of the trans software.

Monitor the gear selection on the dash display by clicking the + on the gear selector.
Depending on driving conditions, it may be skipping 4th gear.
Driving in tow mode will eliminate skipping gears.

Yeah I turn that on every drive. It's 100 percent into and out of 4th exclusively.

It just feels like it over revs it's way into and out of the gear and it's a half second late shifting

I javnt really checked cc at that low of speed bit it's certainly while driving without it.

Maybe just a refresh. I did just get the works done at ford since I'm still under warranty and just have them do it then do everything myself after.
Issue still there after their once over so maybe I'll bring it back in to let them look it overagain

Mine was doing that as well.
Currently, the dealer is rebuilding my 24k mile transmission. Apparently the TSB applied to mine.
May want to talk to the dealer about it.

Mine has a rough shift 4th to 5th. I still drive and tow all i can. I dont worry to much about it. If it goes it goes ill buy another tranny put it on in a day and wait 2 months for ford to program it. I trust lawyers before i trust dealer dealer mechanics, or the dealer.
