I had my hip replaced a year and a half ago. It was my Christmas present to myself. I am so glad I did it. It's better than new and the doctor guaranteed it for 30 years. Ok I will be 95 then. :frown:
well at least you know what to get yourself for you 96th birthday

Honestly, before I made the decision, everyone I spoke to who had done it recently says the same thing.

I am so excited at the prospect of getting my life back, I am thrilled. We were very active wilderness hikers/snowshoers, etc. seeing my wife walk out the door with the dogs, me laying around popping Meloxicam, Celebrex, you name it, and doing less and less. Ot was killing me.

Right now, I have less pain in the hip, than I had before the surgery, 3 days hence.

PS - My doc said mine would last me the rest of my life. So I guess I know what my expiration date is… :)

Wife got a new hip and a pair of knees a couple of years ago. No issues.

If they won't prescribe Coumadin/Warfarin to ward off clots, D-con rat poison is the same stuff. ;o)

Good luck...
Thanks for the tip, I think? ;)

They will be sawing my hip joint out first thing tomorrow and hopefully installing a new steel version in its place.

The joint they showed me was a chrome looking gadget and I did inquire to see if they had the sport blackout version, but the surgeon said no, just the chrome look, so it isn't going to match the truck, bummer...

I had a first cousin who never came home from his knee replacement surgery (my sister actually found him dead in his recovery room, suboptimal). So if blood clots after joint replacement run in the family and I don't make it, I just wanted to make sure anyone I might have slighted along the way here knows, it was me not you. :)

Cheers, see you all next week sometime.

B
Prayers!!

Bill,
How's the recovery going?
It is going good Paul, thanks for asking.

I am semi ambulatory with the walker, like 20 mins up, 2 hours down. I have overdone It (multiple times :() and get reminded pretty quickly it wasn’t a wisdom tooth I had out, but honestly, way beyond my wildest expectations.

I think the biggest issue I have had (it took me a while to figure it out) is all the meds they give you. Between the Tramadol and the mega steroids, I swap between euphoria and ‘roid rage on the flip of a switch.

I got into an argument (pretty loud on my side) with my wife last night and she just started laughing. Which of course made me madder. She finally said, “honey, it’s the Steroids!” Of course I knew she was right instantly, as I fought to keep myself in my mental straight jacket. ;)

Dave had me scared for a bit lol I thought you had taken the express route down the stairs for a second, then again your wife may get fed up with the roids and help you do that lol

Steroids can wreak havoc on your system and mind that's for sure. I had to take a long dose of prednisone some years ago for my asthma and it made me super irritable. Annie would just looks at me, laugh and shake her head then walk away. Like you I fought myself from not continuing my rage knowing she was right and I (the meds) was being an ass. lol
