Was reading on line where people were heating up the metallic paint via a container that would absorb the heat and make the paint much more viscous. Supposedly it helps thin it out and really mix the paint? I haven't tried it but it's an idea....kinda like chocolate on a double boiler melting it. I have the same color paint so I will be following closely...good luck

I may attempt to do that with the clearcoat. See if I can blend it better then compound it level. My main concern is just getting the paint to match. It seems that using minimal paint for each brush stroke blends it better. Sometimes dabbing it works but it's hard not to get globs. The saga continues

Ok so here's the follow up with everything I've done to try and blend in the spot I burned through the clear. I've only got a few coats of paint on it. I'll wait for the paint to cure properly then add some clear coats to the final product. Not too bad but not perfect. Maybe a body shop can sand the area altogether and respray and blend.

Not bad Nick, metallics are tough. Add some clear and hand buff and it wont be too visible, only you know its there. Bret

Back when I was working in the area of paint refinishing we always use a small toothpick put down even smaller and applied multiple coats of touch up paint. Worked well. One thing that never works is to use the brush that comes with the touch up paint. It puts o. Too much paint and does so in a blob. And then when you try to sand it down you end up sanding the area around the blob and creating a bigger repair/problem.

little airbrushes work pretty well. Tape off the area you want to paint and airbrush it in. Blend with a nice machine glaze like the 3M Perfect-it system. You will never k is it was there.

So after my horrible attempt to touch up that spot on my bumper, here's the update. I had the body shop at the dealer sand, respray, and clear the left side of the bumper. They also took care of 2 rock chips in the hood that missed the deflector. Out the door it was $424 after taxes. I honestly thought it would be a lot more so I'm a happy camper. Looks better than new. I also got a free buffing of the entire car to my surprise.

That’s the job most promise. . A lot of stuff seems good. The install is the issue. I used factory paint. 5k grit sand paper to smooth it down and still can’t get the clean look. Might have to spray it. Wondering if others have better experience.

Im getting a clear bra put on tomorrow so I did touch up on about a dozen rock chips before hand and they turned out great. The secret is wet sanding. Here are the before shots. Will provided after shots once buffing complete..

Some after photos.. The front of this truck seems to attract rock chips! Im glad I did this before I got the clear bra and I wish there was a clear bra on from new.

So I noticed you had a chip near the side of the drivers headlight where it meets the fender panel. Interesting because I had the same exact chip. It was the same location and looked exactly like yours in size and shape. I'm assumed a factory defect from the beginning but I think your pictures confirmed my theory. Sorry I don't have any pictures of mine

That chip didn’t look like road debris to me. So I suspect you're right. I used the touch kit from the ford dealer btw.

Yeah I used their touch up paint pen. I should've mentioned that when I had the left side of my bumper repainted. I suppose a headlight clip is the culprit.

Started a thread about the wheel wells and under side paint bubbling, cracking and peeling. Trying to see if bushwacker would dona body armor extension. If interested check out the thread. My paint is cracking and peeling sadly. Ford won’t help as of now. Dealer blamed road conditions

Please post a link to the door edge protector you have! And if you have anymore pictures of them from a distance I would love to see that, too. :) Thanks.
