I can't find another mention of this, and I'm not sure if this is an issue or not, but should the two leafs be slightly out of alignment? You can see the mark left by the bump is far off center. On the right side it's dead center.

Could a small bump to the rear left bumper cause the sprint to get out of alignment?

I'm planning on pulling a light weight camper for a short trip this summer and was just looking everything over when i noticed it. It likely has been like that for a while...

It’s not an issue at all. Leaves kinda “float” around like this sometimes.

Ok thanks. Two years ago there was a minor hit to the left rear bumper which bent it down slightly and was worried somehow that threw that leaf out of alignment. My ocd really wants it centered ;)

Medium speed pothole while turning should even things back out...

Hi Ben,

This condition is called spring splay. It is not sever in your case, but I would at a minimum check the U Bolts for tightness. If bolts are tight....No Worries...

Best,
Phil

Dang , hadn't herd that term for awhile , was a part of a reoccurring test question on the MPE (mail processing equipment)maintance exam , LONG belts , springs and tensioners , to much splay will ruin your day ... and chew the mail all to hell , "splay" is usually the reason your mail comes in a "we're sorry" bag with puzzle pieces and half of your check...

As a retired 25 year mail carrier I always joked the machine sorters had an optional mail shredder installed.

Ehhh, it's not optional...sadly... ?
Most of it is preventable, with proper maintenance and the right guy working on it... seeing less and less of that though...

The flat sorters were the worst. They call it the FSS machine I called it the ASS 1000 machine. I even had the postmaster accidently calling it the ASS

Edit: looks like there are actually other posts with people who have the same exact misalignment. Very odd.

Bolts are tight. But it’s just bugging me how out of line it is. I’m assuming I can’t adjust without removing the weight from the spring , do you think a shop would just realign it easily?
