Try driving it at night. My parents had a house on Marco Island and we would always go over to Ft Lauderdale and you'd have to take Alligator Alley which is US 41. During the day you could see the Gators on the sides and in the canal. Coming back at night there's no lights and you pray you car doesn't break down there. It's about 80 miles from coast to coast. o_O

There's an old JetPort out there used by the Southern Cross Astronomical Society and we went out there with a friend to do star gazing. And since there are about a billion mosquitos for every human out there I lathered up with mosquito repellent.

Well, you go in with headlights off because there are others out there (probably 20-30 that night) and we set up some lounge chairs and I grabbed some Amway mosquito cream stuff that's like 95% DEET. It was so dark that I couldn't even see the tube of it in front of my face and squirted about 5 times more than I needed into my palm. Well I figured I'd just smear it all over starting with my forehead.

LOL, in about 5 minutes I was more buzzed (as in inebriated) than I've been since a teenager!

It wasn't a bad feeling but holy smokes, I still remember it to this day!

It can be pretty in the day but it's mosquito land at night and they love me! When we'd kayak in the Everglades and get near hammocks (small semi-island areas) the water would be really shallow and our paddles stir up the bottom and, holy cow, is that smelly! All that decaying organic matter, pee-yew!

Once when we were biking on a trail far south in the park, we were heading back to the car (FJ40) and a huge 10 foot gator was sunning itself on the trail. We contemplated how to get past—should we try to scare him by throwing rocks? Should we "bunny hop" over him (yikes) or should we pedal like hell with a long running start?!?

After being dumb with a small rock, which made him pick up his head and growl (a deep hissing sound), we waited a few minutes. We gathered up our courage and hauled ass passed him and were a bit disappointed that he could have cared less about us!

They do have some wooden platforms for kayakers made for overnight camping but, I'm with you Tracy, no camping for us either!
You're braver than I am, I'd still be there waiting for that gator to move. lol

Pucker factor was high for a second this morning.

Got back to the office and decided to throw my work bag and jacket in the truck. My keys live in my bag through the week. After taking care of a few things before the weekend, I thought "I should warm the truck up." Hit the remote start from the app and didn't think anything about my bag.

Until I went to leave and the damn thing didn't unlock like it's supposed to when I grabbed the handle.

It only took a few seconds to realize I could use the app. But the 30 seconds of dread that this would be the time the app wouldn't work for me almost killed me.

There it is! The solution! Simple and very effective. This is what I did with my last truck and didn't even think to do it with my Ranger because of the remote entry fob deal. Thanks much. This will solve the problem very well.
I do the same with a magnetic water proof box hidden on the truck...didn't know about the laminated side glass...probably only 2019 models have them... ?

I wanted to know if anyone on here has had the pleasant experience of their Ranger suddenly deciding to lock itself? I have a 2020 Ranger XLT with the regular key with the remote lock/unlock buttons and I always lock or unlock my truck with no issues whatsoever. I mean, I've always had to press the lock button to lock it with the exception of driving off, it locks itself as I start to drive off, a safety feature that I've always liked.

What I'm talking about is ignition off, all doors unlocked, key out and away and the truck locking itself after about ten minutes or so of just sitting, just sitting, doing nothing, just sitting around dead and parked lol

Few nights ago, I was unloading my truck way out in the middle of nowhere and the wind swiftly shut my driver's door while I was unloading my kayak. No biggy. I've had my truck unlocked many times with the keys inside. But when I went to open the door, what the .%$#&! All the doors had suddenly locked! My phone happened to be inside, too! So I was totally screwed and had to break the friggin glass to get inside. Imagine that, busting the glass on your nice Ranger!

Well, as a side note, if anyone has to do this, DO NOT ever break the driver's window! It's laminated and cost $600 bucks. Thank goodness they make a regular tempered replacement at half the price. To be honest, I prefer the tempered stuff, yes, at half the price but more so because that laminated stuff was like trying to bust steel. I used a giant rock and had to hit it so many times to even dent it. Can't imagine if ever trapped inside, totally trapped, never gonna break it to escape.

Here's my keyless entry method:

I always use a carabiner. Not a perfect solution by any means, but it can help prevent this in the future, maybe.

I was too, up until about a year ago when I decided finally (for the 50th time) to actually lose some weight. I started at a not so terrific 275lbs…glad to say that as of yesterday when I weighed myself I am at a much better 226lbs. Thank you weight watchers….no, seriously, weight watchers actually worked for me.

Yeah, that gator across the trail sounds pretty scary. Ya’ll were brave biking past him, but I think I would even chance that instead of waiting hours for him to move. Be my luck he would not move before nightfall.

I would yell at my phone so it could hear inside my truck “Hey Siri, unlock my truck”
Best shortcuts ever to lock/unlock/start truck!
