1985 XL came with more features than the 2020 haha. Really cool find. Not $24,000 worth of cool. But cool nonetheless

I noticed in the pictures that this 1985 Ford Ranger has a third-brake light. I had a suspicion that the '85 was the first year for one on a Ranger as they were not required by law until 1986. I found the below picture of a 1984 Ranger. No third brake light. Thus, the 1985 Ford Ranger is a collector's item! :)

Is it a third brake light or just a cargo light, lens looks clear.

I love the 80's Ranger body style and the two tone they used to come with. Crazy value that this one is going for, but rare to find one in that kind of shape. My first truck at 16 was a 1990 Ranger Lariat. Great truck. Saw more air time than your average rental car.

Honestly, the 85 was a great little truck, but I think this latest incarnation is head and shoulders far superior.

That 19 Retro Ranger is part of why I'm thinking about a Bronco, the Ranger bodylines don't do two-tone justice.

Now, a Bronco bodied Ranger would be awesome, maybe for the next iteration.

Hi Jim,

Seeing this picutre brings out a bit of a back story. You see the tailgate white letters. I was amazed at the assembly plant how those letters were done. There is a assenbly plant line worker with a paint roller that rolled the paint onto the embossed letters! I could not believe it but this person also did pin striping using paint pens. Who would have thunk that that there would be a paint roller used on production vehicles.... I even tried this out with the line worker... There was a "technique" to get it right, but I did not do a bad job on a one time basis.

Best,

This reminds me of my first truck (1986 Ranger, junior year HS) and rattle can priming a replacement tailgate I found at a wrecking yard .
