This thread is perfectly timed with my vinyl turning up, closer in colour to my painted parts than I expected.

Now I just have to figure out how to put the whole dash apart! Oh, and how to do a decent job wrapping .

Early today, I removed all of the interior pieces off the dash.

I tried and tried to remove the airbag from the steering wheel, so I could get that trim piece out too and failed multiple times.... I know what I'm "supposed" to do with the tiny holes on each side of the wheel, but I just could never get the airbag to release....

I'm going to try again tomorrow and if I cannot get it then, I'm just going to order the carbon fiber overlay for it and do a carbon fiber/stain lack paint job on the dash pieces I suppose...

I replied back... I'm going to try a different tool tomorrow. I can definitely feel the "spring" of the little wire, but as soon as I try to lift the airbag, it either doesn't want to move or the damn tool slips off the wire.

I cannot find any info on how to remove it at all... Found other Ford's that look similar, but they're the same method...

If you try it, remove the neg terminal from your battery first :)

I solved this problem by getting the XL model.

Seriously, I'm no fan of all that silver trim. Not sure if it's supposed to add a touch of luxury to the cab, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I can understand why you want to get rid of it.

Some good info here so jump in and "get'r done"!

I'm not sure why Ford thought the satin black was fine in the XL, but the XLT needed this awful silver mess. My stepfathers' Lariat has a nicer almost black dash... I should've just gotten the XL, but the few options I wanted got into the XLT trim :)

Curious if you have any pics since taking apart the dash. I know this is an old thread but I'm thinking about painting mine as well!
