@Fawnbuster remeber the term latch key kids? I was one.
Didn't mind at all, gave me a sense of responsibility and taste of freedom.
@Fordup I think I still have some gravel in the back of my hand from a wipeout when I was a kid. Had something hard work its way out of my hand a couple years ago, some 40 yrs later.

Man i remember all of those. 1 of my sisters got an ezbake oven for Christmas, when they weren't home I would bake me up some snacks and use up her supplies lol. Those wacky stickers also, some with Rat Racer on them, others with bad names for current products like Vomit Comet cleanser. Teaberry gum, bubsdaddy bubble gum in the 18 inch sticks. Cap guns, a whole roll of those red paper caps sounds like a gun going off when you hit it with a sledge hammer, ask my sisters, they about peed there pants when I snuck up behind them and did it, they where in middle school and smoking a cigarette, when they told me "ill tell dad!" My reply was no you won't, I'll tell him you where smoking ?.

I had a heck of a beer can collection from all over the world, dumpster diving for them and returnable bottles was like a treasure hunt!
oh man i remember those red rolls of paper caps! i got the bright idea of smashing an entire new roll in my empty garage with metal walls and cement floor one day... put the caps on the cement got a hammer and whack... i only heard a small pop then ringing for about ten minutes lol

Not to one up you .. they came in a box of 5 rolls... Add using a baseball bat ... I had sense not to do it inside... Scorched the end of the bat.... Had quite the kick... Ever light a roll stretched out with a match?

Wow that just brought back a memory! Built my own chopper bike. Banana seat, sissy bar and 20” tires. All parts were from the town dump. Only brake I could find was a caliper and it would only rig up to the front wheel. So was showing it off to the neighborhood kids and the bully of the bunch pushed me off my bike and took off on it. I lived on a gravel road. He was flying towards us after circling back and then hit that brake. Went airborne through the wing handlebars and proceeded to face plant into the gravel. You would think this kid got murdered the way he was screaming. Blood everywhere, he had a pebble imbedded into his forehead. That’s the last time he ever picked on me! Lmao

This thread sure has brought back a lot fond memories growing up in the good old days.

Along the lines of stupid and dangerous ideas as kids what about the Polish Cannons (No Racial Slur Intended), back then there was no such thing as being PC. Used to cut the top and bottom off of soda cans and tape them together for a tube, then leave the bottom one intact just punching a few holes in the top and one on the side. Filling with some lighter fluid, shaking it up and shooting tennis balls at each other out of it.

Another crazy idea was to shoot bottle rockets out of the barrel of the tank at the local VFW. They had it fenced off, and the top hatch was welded shut, but there was an opening on the bottom you could crawl into. The only problem with the idea was after shooting a few out of the barrel by the time we crawled out, and over the fence the cops were waiting for us no way to escape.

What about the Tuffskin pants (Sears brand I think) you wore? As thick as they were, and with the double knees you could not wear them out. So you had them for a few years even when they did not fit anymore.

We are all lucky that we are alive and well to enjoy our newest toy the Ranger.

I had forgotten all about that - we didn't call them Polish Cannons - and we didn't shoot them at each other, but we blew a LOT of tennis balls REALLY high with those things. We experimented with using 3 and 4 cans (I can't remember which worked better). Those were sure a blast and really cheap.

We used alchohol to fire ours. Too many cans and they would blow up burning the hair off your arms. Later I switched to making potato guns. I still make the potato guns. Here's an old video of my last one ?

How about going to the dentist, and NO ONE wore masks, face shields, or gloves. If they had to pull a tooth, blood got everywhere and no one minded.

I had a couple of them blow up when I started using oxygen with alchohol as propellant. This one will put a carrot through a pine board. Never tried it with ice that was the original plan.

Anybody else build and launch Estes rockets. I had 20 of them. We had a giant ball field and would have contests to see who's could go the highest. The ones with 3 rocket engines could be real dangerous if the engines didn't all light.
