How about going to the dentist, and NO ONE wore masks, face shields, or gloves. If they had to pull a tooth, blood got everywhere and no one minded.
Our dentist did not use novacane or pain killers. We would be screaming. Made me scared of dentists.

Anybody else build and launch Estes rockets. I had 20 of them. We had a giant ball field and would have contests to see who's could go the highest. The ones with 3 rocket engines could be real dangerous if the engines didn't light.
I did them as a kid and when I was involved with Scouting, we did them there as well - I still have like 10 kits and a bunch of engines in the garage. The problem these days is finding some place that will let you set them off. We did it in a county park in wintertime (no one else around). The Park Ranger watched us from afar and when we were done he came over and said "yeah, you really aren't supposed to do that here-but I didn't want to spoil your fun". :)

Who had one of these? I remember looking at these and trading the slides with friends.

I had a camera just like this one. o_O My parents gave it to me when they bought a new one. You had to wait to take all the pictures then go drop off the film and wait like a week to get your pictures back. Then you'd find out that half of them didn't come out. lol

I had a couple of them blow up when I started using oxygen with alchohol as propellant. This one will put a carrot through a pine board. Never tried it with ice that was the original plan.

I built tons of rockets. Still have a few packed away somewhere

We used alchohol to fire ours. Too many cans and they would blow up burning the hair off your arms. Later I switched to making potato guns. I still make the potato guns. Here's an old video of my last one ?
Impressive

I had a Polaroid that would smear dangerous chemicals on the picture to develop it in 60 seconds. One out of every 6 pictures came out recognizable.

Haven't seen these mentioned yet
1671681507027.png

I would set them up on and around a fort of Lincoln Logs and Bricks (before lego) and shot them with a cork gun and run a wind up tank through the forts.
Playing with matchbox cars or slot cars, would spend hours setting up the track and racing my friends. Then mom would make me put it away after a week when we moved on to other activities.
You knew a party was happening soon when Charles Chips showed up and dad went to the beverage store for a case of Strohs and a case of Faygo pop. Anyone remember the Faygo song? Think either my parents or my sister still has all the old 45s we had.
Snoopy and the Red Baron was one of them. By the Royal Guardsmen I think.
Spending a Saturday with grandpa, going to the to parts store and stoping by the bar next door, gramps would have a shot and a beer and I'd have a pop and a bag of chips. Grandma would always check to see how many we had when we got back. Then hang out in the garage listening to the Indians ball game while gramps had another beer. I still love hanging out in the garage with the ballgame on, a beer in my hand and just tinkering. Damn, where did summer go.
Lots of good memories in the thread.
I played with the little army men and also the cowboy and Indian men with my brother and cousin. I also played football - tackle football- with my brother & cousins. I could hold my own.

I also had a Ms. Beasley doll & an Easy Bake Oven.
It was fun being a kid back then.:)
