Rather simple inquiry, I am assuming (from drawing board perspective) that it should be as simple as snipping the wires and re-splicing them in the desired location. I want to move the camera to my rear rack for a much better view. I can plug the old hole below the emblem with a rubber grommet.

I don't really want to add an after-market camera which would require use of a secondary screen.

Very nice. If I ran a rack on my truck I would be watching this like a hawk.

Truck should've come with a plug for the harness so when you need to remove the tailgate you can plug the harness so you won't need to cut the cable.

It does, or at least mine did. I have one in a bag in the glove box.

Wait, is that what that is for? I've been wondering for 2 years why Ford tossed me a bagged connector in my glovebox...

Oh nice that just confirms I can make my own harness.... and use a different camera and leave the factory one in place.
Now get creative and put a switch in also. I want to see both views.

has anyone actually removed their tailgate?

Is the TG damper the same? the added hassle of that damper install, with the wire harness, must simply seem like an impossible task to take off the tailgate.
Yes, I've removed the tailgate to unload dirt out of the bed. It was better than trying to get all the dirt out from between the bed and tailgate.
And, I even let the damper dangle while it was off.
It was all I could do to carry the tailgate. That thing is heavy! ?

Hey, I was wondering if you have the diagram for the connection of the 12 pin female connector, like you guys I have the connector but do not know where to put my four wires to make an aftermarket camera work. would love to be able to save few 100 bucks and not go with rostra!

thanks
