Regular vs premium anyone else notice huge difference?

not what i have read. theres a guy who went into great detail on the F!50 forum who says it changes within 10 miles.
I did over 300 today. still unremarkable.

like i said you most likely aren't going to feel any difference from the driver's seat. Most likely the only time you could tell is in certain conditions such as high elevation or heavy towing. if you dumped a cup of water down your oil fill you probably wouldn't be able to notice anything either but that doesn't mean it's lubricating just as good as before you did it. Look dude if you wanna run 87 go for it Ford designed the truck so that you can do just that but being your engine is forced induction it's going to be happier thousands of miles down the road if you use high test fuel. It's your vehicle do what you wish.

Ford did not run its durability testing on premium fuel unless it directs in the owners manual for premium only... Toyota did this on the Lexus SUV, much to the dismay of the owners. Please feel free to run 87 without concern. You may benefit from higher octane and if so go for it. I am very happy with the performance of the motor on 87...

Please feel free to run 87 without concern. You may benefit from higher octane and if so go for it. I am very happy with the performance of the motor on 87...

Hypothetically, I need to haul a trailer on a hot day in the mountains tomorrow...according to the manual, i should use these grades for this purpose.

how many tanks of 93 or 91 gas do i need to run before I can safely make this trip?

The suggestion of using premium for high heat environments and towing is for extended use of your truck in those conditions.

can you show me the statement about the "extended use" ? I dont see that anywhere in the manual.

Ok, it doesn't specify extended use but I would imagine filling up with high octane fuel the night before would benefit you one way or another even if the OAR doesn't adjust immediately.

It will adjust quite quickly under heavy load, battery reset or hard throttle use. It’s really not that complicated. As I said in a prior post, you may not feel as much difference at sea level and many vehicles are different but from my experience there was a large increase in throttle sensitivity and power with just 91. I’m at 7k feet.

I run 91 in my turbo Rubicon, as well as my new Ranger. I don’t care about the price difference. If for some reason I need to care, I probably should have bought a more fuel efficient vehicle. There is no myth to be busted. There is dyno proof of the increase in power. Not a small increase either. If you want to run 87, great. It’s your truck, do with it what you will.

We're at 6,500' here in Raton, the lousy lower octane fuel is readily available in small town New Mexico. The last 2 tanks have been purchased in Colorado Springs for the Christmas holiday & it's 91 octane. I'm going to bump the fuel monitoring computer again, as we've picked up about 1+ mpg with the better fuel. It's interesting to see a change in fuel economy with better fuel. Don't really notice a difference in power, just getting better mileage with better fuel. Will be buying better stuff here in Raton from now on, when I can find it.

It really depends on how you drive. If you are hauling a trailer in the mountains, do you need to keep up with the cars? Do you take it a little easier when your eng is working hard? Lead Foot Louie probably should use higher octane. If you are pulling a max loaded trailer and you want to be nice to your engine use of high octane fuel would be good. Oh, wait that is what Ford said about their engine.

this thread should just be closed. Google is a great tool, a caveman can easily deduce from a few searches that a forced induction engine (turbo for you simple folk) likes 91 better than 87 but if your'e a cheapskate you will be fine running 87 unless you are going to be in a situation where you are often running under high boost.

the OP probably did experience what he stated. It is rare but possible to get bad gas from a station. Now imagine going from 84 octane gas with phase separation(when the ethanol separates from the gas) to fresh 91 octane. Not saying that's what happened though. And like I said before if he's using the truck for hard work or is high elevation it would be an even bigger difference.
