Hi,

I was reading through the manual (again) about how to use the AC outlets in the back. The USB ports for charging work, but when I connected my laptop to charge, no dice. This happened (or didn't) with the truck both on and off. Nothing specific was mentioned about their use, just plug & chug.

Thanks

That is strange, it does not work for anything but charging. Try plugging something else in that does not require a lot of electricity. It should be just plug and play. If you have a new truck with warranty, i would try and take it in to have it looked at. I know dealers are a hassle!

Did you try another electrical device to see if the outlet is powered? I run a nightlight and charge my phone from the USB port, and they always work while the truck is running.

I tried my laptop and the power brick from my phone, nothing.

If the laptop tripped it, I think you have to let the outlet reset (I think let the truck fully power down and the try again once it is running) before anything else will get power. I know my laptop has a 180W power supply and that is too high for the Ranger's outlet.

I have two power adapters for my work computer, one's designed to be a at-the-desk power adapter, which I believe is 240W. The other is a portable one, that's 160W... Which is more than what's stated that the AC outlet is rated for. However, I have no problem using the 160W one to charge my laptop. But I tried using the 240W, and it just didn't work - I didn't blow the fuse or anything, it just said nope and wouldn't turn on. Probably some sort of current overdraw protection deactivated it.

Not saying that's what's going on with yours, but 150W is REALLY low, kinda embarrassingly low. Especially when the base F150 one is 400W, with option 2000W (and then hybrid at 7200W... but that's not a fair comparison).

I have a ranger on order and wonder about that 150w outlet. I have Jackery 1500 battery that can charge on both 12v but also AC. The AC power adapter is 300w but the battery doesn't charge at that rate, much lower. My presumption, probably false is that the adapter is able to draw 300w but wouldn't normally charging the Jackery... I wonder if will work or not. I'm not an expert on these things. I may need to use a 12v outlet. 150w is awfully low.

@lazynorse

Check your owners manual. Searching online, makes it look like closer to 250W draw and so the truck won't work as built. Keep in mind that with all these conversions, it's not super efficient and make draw more than you would expect

I just run a 12V charger to my Explorer 1500 and then power my computer from the Jackery AC outlets.

I’ve used that outlet to charge my iPhone, power my Iceco 12v fridge, and even charge my Bluetti AC50S.

Only time I’ve ever had an issue was trying to use a small heating blanket.
