Rear locker on 2wd?

Just a hypothetical question. Can you order the new ranger with a rear locker like the old tacomas? I wouldn’t feel like I absolutely need 4wd if I could get a 2wd with a rear locker to lock in both back tires.

I got a 4X2 with the locking rear differential.

My main purpose for this would be if I got in a slightly muddy situation and needed to get out. I would want to engage it and get past being stuck and then disengage

There is a downloadable owners manual which explains the rear locker. There is a switch and the instructions indicate you have to drive in a straight line at low speeds to engage it. I don’t know if it will engage if the truck is stuck in mud.

This is why I ordered it on mine. Haven't had to use it yet but will be useful when I need it.

The instructions say you can engage it when rocking back and forth or words to that effect, so I think it can be engaged after being stuck, but prior to going into loose or muddy terrain would be best idea.

It will engage while moving, turning, etc (First hand experience), but once you hit something like 25Mph, the light turns off, and the axle unlocks. Once below a certain speed (like 20 maybe) the light comes back on, and the axle locks back up.

This repeats until you either turn it off (you can only do it when the light is on), or a key cycle occurs.

Haven't had the opportunity to test mine out yet. I do understand slow speed and no throttle input is key to engagment. It was my way of convicing myself that it would be OK to go with a 4x2 here in Florida as long as I had the Rear Locker for when traction was needed!

Mine takes about a half second or second long press, and you have to be going under 20-25mph, once it's on, you'll see a "driveline" in orange-ish with an X where the rear diff would be. The driveline will disappear when you go too fast, and reappear when you go slow again.
