I have a 2019 STX with the small screen radio.
The screen has been "freezing"... sometimes it gets stuck on a screen and does not respond to inputs
The screen stays on even after the key is removed and the door is opened.
After some time it finally goes out.
Next time the truck is started all functions may work as intended, or it may come on in a freeze mode.
This is hard to describe but I hope someone here has some insight as to the cause.

My 8” did this a lot. Sometimes it would freeze on a radio channel or freeze the screen stuck on the backup camera. It drove me nuts because I’d have to turn iff the car, open a door to reset it. This is why i got rid of it and put in an aftermarket stereo system

Well, I tried the reset Idea to no avail.
The radio sometimes works as designed for a while, even a whole trip.
Then it arbitrarily does some random function then freezes.
The music continues but the radio responds only to volume control.
Even shutting off the ignition and opening and shutting the door has no effect.
If the truck is shut off and exited, the screen stays lit but still frozen.
After some time (maybe the 10 minute ignition off play time?) the radio finally goes dark.
Next time the truck is started this random behavior starts all over again.
When it is not responding, it does not respond to inputs from dash buttons, wheel buttons or voice.

Any Ideas?....
Would this be a defect in the head unit, the main amp unit, or some relay somewhere else in the trucks harness?

Also ...
Does anyone have an XL type radio head unit ( small screen non-touch) in good working order which has been removed to upgrade to the 8" screen?
If so would you like to reclaim the shelf space in your garage?

Another update,,,
I am told that to correct the above problem I must upgrade to Sych 3.4.
Apparently, this must be done by the dealer... as the upgrade can not be accomplished over the air.
The note says ... "Update APIM/Sync to newest firmware (VO184 code present)"

Still another Question...
Could this be done with a FORSCAN tool?

I hope this thread gives some insight to others with similar issues.

Cyanlabs will do it.

https://cyanlabs.net/

Be warned this will take quite some time to complete - but IMO it works better than the Ford solution.

Plug in your VIN on this website and see if there is an update available from Ford. https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/

You should be able to update yourself using the USB port.
