been window shopping for replacements for the factory speakers. While on Crutchfield's site, I looked over the disclaimers regarding the fit for our actual vehicle and it mentions cutting of the back of the factory speaker grilles.

For those that have done this mod, does this sound correct? Is this talking about the actual back of the door car or am I misreading?

I just replaced all 4 door speakers today with Rockford Fosgate 6.5 components up front and 6.75 coax in the back. You do not have to cut anything. However, you do have to figure out how to hold the new tweeters in place as Crutchfield doesn't have a bracket for them. I just hot glued mine in. Also, the 6.75 speakers fit fine but I had to modify the adapter for the speaker to fit. Hope that helps.

No B&O. I think it made a noticeable difference...more clarity and the bass is not as muddy. I am going to get a small (45w) Kicker amp installed in a couple of weeks which I think will improve it even more. Right now I am happy with the bass but after the amp is installed I may add a powered sub when funds allow. I am not after a big thumping system but I like good sound.

As an update to this, I did notice that something was preventing the front door panels from completely come flush at the bottom right where the speaker is. Right now it doesn't cause a problem but I will take the panel back off to see if there is something around the speaker that is keeping the panel from getting flush with door. Probably won't be until next weekend.

Ok, so I took the door panels back off because they were not quite flush after adding aftermarket speakers. Attached is a pic of what Crutchfield says needs to be trimmed down for their adapters and new speaks to fit. I trimmed these with a angle grinder and now door panel fits like it should.

Stan,
I'm trying to get the rear door panel back on. Can you or anyone else tell me the secret for re-connecting the door latch cable to the back of the panel? It seems like it snaps back in place but keeps disconnecting when I start to attach the panel to the door. Tried several times so help needed.

Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully you got it figured out. The only thing I can offer is try to keep the door panel as close to the door as possible when you attach the cable. I didn't have any trouble with mine so I didn't really do anything special. Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks Stan. I got it back together and did the second door yesterday. I guess I wasn't getting the clip positioned correctly because I couldn't see what I was doing. A guy on another tread mentioned lowering the window so I could see it from the outside. That helped and the 2nd door was a breeze.

Is there adapter for tweeter wiring? Or did you just cut the oem plug off and splice from there?

The woofers connect to the factory harness using the Metra 72-5602 wiring harness. The tweeters had built in crossovers and just plugged onto the woofer.

I used Morel speakers and cut the OEM plug and connected the tweeters to the original tweeter harness wires. No adapter is available. The tweeters have their own amp channels in the B&O audio system. I also wired in a 22uF non-polarized capacitor to protect each tweeter. The original tweeters had a capacitor connected in the speaker assembly. You can see it in the tweeter socket. I didn't use the Morel crossovers. Yours may be different since I'm not sure about the non-B&O system. I used the Metra 72-5602 adapter for the woofers.
