Can anyone recommend a nice quality push button start kit? I can't believe in 2020 I have a vehicle I have to get my keys in and out of my pocket. This is one of those items I won't mind spending money on something reliable and high quality vs. keeping cost down by rolling dice on Amazon chicom electronics.

Honestly if you don't like the idea of keyed ignition and would rather get a push-button then do yourself a favor and go trade the truck in for a Lariat that already has the push button ignition. This is something you should have thought about when buying the truck. I myself prefer to have a solid key because if something does happen I can just turn the key to shut the truck off. That is as long as it works.

I don't consider things like a push button start when buying a new car because I generally don't buy new cars. As a matter of fact, this is the only new car I have ever owned in 39 years. That is why generally a robust aftermarket exists at nearly every level for every car part down to titanium nuts and washers if I happen to make an error of this nature. I'm only familiar with push button starts because my vehicle for work has one and its nice.

More to point, back in March the local dealership had exactly two Rangers on the lot,one was a Lariat that had so much chrome installed on it you could probably spot it from space on a sunny day.

Moral of the story, careful with terms like "you should have" - one might think it comes off as condescending instead of being helpful.

But your advice on the trade-in is noted, though highly unlikely to happen.

Jack, check around at some local automotive shops. There are several in my area that do that kind of work, and use much better parts in the process.

He makes a good point. I’ve seen many posts and threads about folks trying to retro fit their xlt to a lariat (ie leather, led lights, painted mirror caps, home link, engine cover etc). Albeit not a very helpful point, but a good point nonetheless.

Jack i would be interested in this also, wonder if there is a setting to turn it on once installed in forscan
Most likely not. I will have to check the diagrams but I'm pretty sure on Fords side a swap isn't possible or even practical if able to be done.

Out of all the push button start vehicles I've owned I've never had a problem. I'm sure like anything you could/will at some point but if that were to happen you can always shut it off via the Ford app. :)

has anyone found out how close the fob has to be for the RFID passive theft thingie has to be to allow ignition?

if its range is "pants pocket" then it becomes much easier. then you can get a cover for the ignition switch, then find the dash piece that has the factory switch and you can then go in and wire it up possibly?

I've been curious about this as my wife's car has the pushbutton start and it IS nice. the proximity door lock/unlock system is very convenient as well.

I'm with you on this one, if it was I would imagine Ford would offer it as an after the sale accessory add-on to sub Lariat models
