It's a great town. We usually spend the day there at least a couple of times when we're in the High Country.

I do miss seeing the fall colours around here.

On a somewhat related topic, my wife's nephew is visiting us next month, and we'll bring him up to the High Country at some point. I thought about maybe taking him for a bit of light off-roading; any place in the area that you'd recommend?

YES! Look up Old NC 105!!! It is very easy and has many disperse camping sites along the road... I started from the south end and ended up in Boone...on the way back home I found Blowing Rock...
