UPDATE!! :like::clap: I rec'd the two new FOBs that I ordered off of eBay a few days ago. I was going to take them to the locksmith this morning to have them programmed. I was about ready yo back out of the garage, but decided to see if I could program them myself using the same directions that I used on the 2020 Escape.

SUCCESS on the first try with both spare FOB's. No dealer or locksmith required!!

Awesome. Do you have a key cutting machine to cut the pull-out key?

I had the local locksmith cut the pull out keys. $20 each to cut.

I just programmed two new Flip key type Fobs for my 2021 Ranger. My build date is Oct 21 and I have a STX FX2 with all the options (basically the XLT interior). I purchased the FOBs from Amazon the model # is N5F-A08TAA, $ 49.99 for two of them. I had the keys cut at ACE Hardware for $ 15.00 dollars each and I programmed them myself. The programming procedure is as follows. 1- Enter the vehicle close the door and lock it. 2- Insert your first factory key and turn the ignition to ON ( do not start the engine) let the chime ding 3 times and remove the key and insert your second factory key , turn it to ON and let the chime ding three times. 3- Now insert your new key into the ignition and turn it to ON and you should see a message on the dash saying the key is programmed you can remove the key and insert another new key and turn it to ON and it will program it also. This procedure programs the key and the lock-unlock features on the FOB. All in I paid $80 to have two extra keys.

Reviving this as one of my original's seems to have a well worn unlock button that sometimes doesn't respond:

From that thread it was recommended to go here:

https://northcoastkeyless.com/product/ford-ranger-flip-key-fob-remote-fcc-n5f-a08taa-p-n-164-r8130/

I did, it arrived, looks good, has a good battery but trying the method that worked for you did not work for me. I even tried the turn the key 8 times with the door open but that too didn't work.

I then fired up Forscan but it seems you need a paid extended license not the 2 month version to get the PATS stuff working. I've ping'd my parts friend and he's going to ask the service guys he knows but I did read something about a setting that allows customers to add keys needing to be set. That or, it seems that if my two original keys are actually just copies of each other then I technically don't have two different original keys.

Anyone else unable to add flip keys themselves?

I think I've replied to this thread already. After I'd signed all the paperwork the dealer handed me the key and said it was the only one they had. The vehicle is used. He had a friend he said could make keys for it for about half price of the dealer. They would have been clones and I knew that without two keys (not clones) there are things like programming the keys and keypad that couldn't be done so I opted to go to the dealer. $300 for the purchase, cutting, and programming and now I have two not cloned keys for my truck.

I bought the truck new, ordered it in fact. So, in theory, the keys I have should be valid originals and both different but I have no way of checking. I do have a cousin who is a locksmith and I think his business partner can do these so I'm going to check with him next.

Update, well, my parts friend told me that the process I was trying was the right one and that the only change would be to leave the new key in for 8 seconds. That didn't work. So, I talked to my cousin's business partner, he doesn't do cars anymore so he sent me to the guy they handed their stuff to. He came over, plugged his device into my OBD2 plug, used the unprogrammed key to turn to the run position, saw that I do indeed have two distinct keys in the system and then he added this one. $100. Now I have the third key.

Not happy that I couldn't do it myself since I'm just kind of that way but I think I got away with roughly 1/2 the dealer price so that's good. Now the original key that I always used that has the unlock button that doesn't always work is my spare.

So, the Northcoast fob I got is a good one. The locksmith said he thought it was good quality and that the price was good so I can recommend getting fobs from them.
