Coming from a full 8' bed F250, I knew I would miss the bed size but the fact is I just don't need it all that often anymore. But I do need to carry full sheets of plywood from time to time, and it is often expensive hardwood veneer stuff that I don't want to damage. Here is my solution: a knockdown platform I can put together as needed to lift my load up above the wheel wells and keep it flat and secure.

I don't show the strap here, but what i do is run a strap from the hook at the rear of the bed up over the corner of the plywood, then back under and through the hole in the center spine of the rack (photo 2) and then back out and up over the other plywood corner and on to the rear bed hook on the other side. Everything is held down and pulled towards the front and cannot come free at all. Works well and easy to put in or take out. 3/4" baltic birch plywood with slots cut to Ikea-icize it together.

Nice. Well thought out. It's ashame they eliminated the pockets the prior generations of Rangers had.

I can see the pockets in his bed and my bed has them but you still need an extension to the tailgate to support long lumber. I made one, but I never took a picture of it.
