Playing CDs in Ranger

Basic question: how should the thumb drive be formatted? I use a Mac system exclusively, but can format the drive and convert files to any type needed. Thanks -

Yep, me too, same question here. I'm guessing FAT32. And an add-on question, is there a file/folder layout that makes the radio present the content in a preferred format? I was just getting ready this morning to start looking for how you use a USB stick as music storage. I wasn't even sure it would work at all because I hadn't tried it. I have Sync3 without nav, and just passed 700 miles on the truck.

I guess I just didn't know enough to be concerned. I just stuck a SanDisk USB flash drive in my 15YO computer (PC) and grabbed and dropped some music files into it And the Sync3 in my Transit Connect played it perfectly even responding to requests by album or artist and shows the info on screen.
The flash drive package says "USB compatible 2.0/3.0

I'm 68 but I have all my music from CD's converted to FLAC and new music I do high resolution FLAC downloads. When I test drove the Ranger I brought two USB flash drives with me and the Ranger played the FLAC files and also recognized both drives at the same time. So the Ranger will play MP3, Wave, ACC, FLAC and more. I have five 256GB flash drives with everything in alphabetical order so if I want to go from Dire Straits to Queen I just change flash drives.

It scans everything on the drive and builds an inventory, then you can play by artist/album/etc

Make sure you tag all your media properly as well for matching up with Gracenotes, etc. Garbage in, garbage out otherwise.

Depends on the software used to rip the media, etc. for how good it is "out of the box". There are several different tools available where you can import your library and automatically look up/populate tag information, etc. from databases. You can check the files to see what's there now with file properties.

Thanks, I assume that as long as I am using prerecorded CDs I will get the same results as I have so far and that I may run into more complexity if I use other sources which may or may not contain tag information?
Is it safe to assume that if the Flash Drive works well in the "HD Sync3" in my 2016 Transit Connect, that it will work in the "Sync" in my 2019 Ranger?

I have suffered so many surprises and misinformation with this Ranger order that I am half afraid to go pick it up and find out what I actually get.

I have a USB stick that I had in my aftermarket stereo in my Canyon that I plugged in and got the popup that it's indexing it that goes away. From reading I need to push the "media" button but I don't seem to have a "media" button so I haven't figured out how this will actually play. I've only spent a few minutes dorking around with this so I'm hoping someone has already figured it out and can share with me.

There isn't a source button that I know of. There is a button with a picture of what looks like an antenna on it which, when pushed, shows AM, FM1 and FM2 and I can select. There is a button with a musical note that, when pressed, starts playing the music from my phone.

Music note button cycles Media sources (USB / Bluetooth Audio). That 4” should be the SYNC 3 Lite system so it operates the same with respect to indexing, browsing and voice recognition as SYNC 3 for USB.

Most likely if you use the same software to rip the others you used for the others, it’ll work. You can see if what you’re using will automatically populate the ID3 info but since it works in the Transit it seems like it is at the basic level at least. And yes, if it works in your Transit it should work the same in the Ranger. Same system.

The Ranger is Sync 3 (at least the XLT and Lariat are).
