I’m sure a quick google would turn up sufficient answers, but you folks are just so much more entertaining!! Tonight, like every other night, I found myself pondering on and on about how to improve my MPG again.. Suddenly I realized, I never use cruise control, even on the longest of journeys. Then it dawned on me... I don’t just forget it exists— I actively avoid it.

See folks, the truth is, ya’ll are my safe space and I have to confess: I’m afraid of cruise control. I’ve been afraid of using one of modern man’s better inventions for over a decade, since a whacked out ole co-worker rolled his vehicle and blamed it on a cruise control lock-up. I said whacked out for good reason, and I’m inclined to believe it was user error.

But tell me, is this possible? Any personal or indirect stories related to such issues? No matter what you tell me, I won’t change my ways. Better safe than sorry, and when it comes to the Ranger- even Jesus doesnt get to take the wheel :crackup::crackup::crackup:

Fear of anything is possible.

Weather or not this phenomenon is wide spread and meaningful enough to have been granted an official name is the question lol.
Hopefully this posts gives others the courage to come forward and have their voices heard ???

I always take the lawnmower when gettin together with the boys. That’s “cruse control”

I wasn’t sure what to expect but that was sick as hell!!! I’ll definitely slow down if it means fitting in a good song before reaching destination

Oudenophobia: fear of nothing ?

My wife is the same and I just don’t get it. The adaptive CC is frigging awesome! ? With frequent road-trips between MD -NH and MD-GA I use it as much as possible. I even use it on the local non-highway roads. AND it seems to help with the gas mileage as well, so you would have that going for you!

Trust the Ranger… be.. be the Ranger…

I drove about 700 miles over the weekend and I’m convinced very few people use cruise control. My observation is that most drivers want their foot in the floor and riding someone’s ass.

Hi Dommy,

You are not the first person I have encountered in my 30 years at Ford that avoided cruise control. What I would recommend is baby steps...try it on a straight piece of road for about 10 miles. Then maybe a longer stint with some curves and a bit more traffic and I think you will gain confidence in it as a great piece of hardware/software. It maintains a set speed much better than your eye on the speedometer for example. If using the adaptive feature you will find it keeps you from running up someones tailpipe... It matches the speed of the vehicle in front of you...

Now to address some of the safety features. If you hit the brakes or just lightly tap them the system deactivates and waits for you to resume cruise control. If you use the up and down speed setting arrow buttons, and click way too fast it senses this and shuts off.

I advise you read the owner's manual on how to use cruise control as it will offer you a better understanding of the system.

Cruise control has saved me several speeding tickets as I have a tendency of speed creep with my right foot.... Cruise allows me to not watch the speedometer, and peace of mind that it is holding the set speed I chose.

As for fuel savings, I have no data on that, but it is directionally correct to not abruptly change fuel flow...

Best,
Phil

I use cruise whenever on the highway. About the only time I don't is if the highway is snow covered or it's raining pretty good. I don't have adaptive cruise but after getting used to it in a car I drove on a recent trip, I learned to appreciate it.
Never had an issue on any of the cars I've had it on including the oldies with vacuum and cable operated cruise.

I love cruise, and this 2022 Lariat has the adaptive that I now also love.
Phobia, or not, cruise control must be mandatory on all freeways/highways!
So, you go up a hill, the human drops 5 MPH, and everyone is now manuavering around to get around the slow poke, and then cutting people off, who have to brake, and the result, a traffic jab!
Seriously, no one is better than a computer keeping the speed consistent.

In 2015 I was able to buy a car with cruise control. I had a hard time at first.
Baby steps. Now I love it. I thought Adaptive CC was 'gadget' but I rented a Subaru
with ACC & now I think it's an incredible 'gadget', wish I had ACC on my XLT.
I believe CC helps with MPGs.

Well I won't use adaptive cruise and "auto-pilot" (not that I have either). I wouldn't even call that a phobia since they are mishap-prone technologies.

Regular cruise I have used for 1000s of miles in this truck and my last one driving on I70. Set at the right speed and I can zone out and listen to audiobooks or podcasts for hours. I think I would cramp up if I had to hold my foot on the gas for a multi-day drive.
