Thanks for all the help this past year, I’ve had my truck a little over a year and put approximately 18,000 miles in the first year. Truck now has 21,500 on it with the following service:

1. Rebuilt rear end (warranty covered, leaking from the rear seal cover).
2. Rebuilt transmission (after a flash, which did not fix the lurching/slipping).
3. Rebalanced one tire due to it being out of balance from the factory.
4. Redid alignment at 10k due to it being a little off from the factory (free!)
5. Replaced some weather stripping and seals.
6. Replaced parking brake boot cover (dealer goodwill, although it looked bad from Day 1)
7. Replaced one set of suspension bushings and ball joints (no idea why, truck doesn’t see any Dukes of Hazzard moves or hard driving)
8. Multiple customer paid alignments, (after the 12k goodwill warranty)
9. Multiple tire rotations and customer paid wheel balancing (after the 12k goodwill warranty)
10. Truck seems to be leaking some coolant. Have not taken it in yet.

And then electronic issues:

1. Rear interior light stays on at times no matter the position of the front switch OR tapping the light (but if you hit it hard enough, it goes out?). Oddly enough the timer relay always catches it on and shuts it off, so it’s more an annoyance…
2. APIM module reprogramming due to rebooting and going to the “Ford” logo. Ugh. It’s doing this again only 9 months later.
3. Bluetooth cuts out. Not a skip in the audio, the BT module seems to lose all connectivity and you have to pull over, wait 30 minutes, etc.
4. An HVAC relay clicking sound. Dealer said it’s normal (for now).
5. Trailer 7 pin is loose (might just be corrosion, don’t have time to look at right now).

All in all I love the truck. It’s great, has great capability, tows smoothly, and is amazing off-road.

Just being honest though, I see these as more high maintenance than “pedestrian” vehicles like a Camry, but the capability and off road prowess makes it worth it.

Damn... that's a lot of rebuilding/replacing !!!
My 2021 is just about to hit 21,000 miles with just some upgraded tires, shocks bump stop, and a Fitzstick. Only in shop for 1/2 hour so the rear headrests could be replaced under the recall.
Didn't even need an alignment after new tires installed.
Not one problem and that's with more than half of the mileage towing a travel trailer.

On your APIM issues...
What version Sync3 are you on? If you have build 22251, then that is most likely the cause of your issues and needs to be updated to build 23188. Do not rely on a wifi connection to tell you if there is an update available as it is not always reliable.

Funny I posted this this morning. My APIM just completely failed with no warning. Can’t see anything, can’t tell what climate control is set to, truck doesn’t respond to any audio (source, track change) inputs on the steering wheel or center stack.

I do not drive the truck hard. It’s towed only loads within the GCWR rating and still has 70% tread left on all tires.

The off road it sees is also backcountry roads, not Moab or Jeep style competitions.

Frustrating…

No idea as I cannot see the screen now. Tried cycling the driver side door, parking for 30 minutes, lock/unlock, the whole screen is blank (but backlight is on). Odd…

Your best bet may be to disconnect the battery for a short time to let the hardware reset. You will also need to reset the auto up/down on the driver‘s window afterwards.

How they replace the headrests?I cant even side mine out because there is not enough room overhead. They dont fold down either. Also,I need the recall done just keep forgetting.

They replaced, under recall, the non folding rests with folders.
To get the old ones off, small flap under the headrest center, gives access to bolt that holds the rear seat back on. Remove bolt and give the back rest a good hard pull as the backrest is still held in place with plastic clips. Sometimes the clips break...sometimes not. If broken not a big deal as bolt is primary way of securing the backrest.
Remember....this applies only the the Scabs, later models with fixed headrests.
Pull up the Ranger recalls....this is covered.
For recall, you have to take your truck to your dealer...they will get the interior info/color/material, and order the proper replacements.

Only things I had done under warranty:

Truck only had a few hundred miles on it when it died out while driving (thankfully only about 4 miles from home) and it turned out to be the serpentine belt had a little defect, like a pencil eraser size chunk out of the one edge of the belt.

A little plastic piece wouldn't stay snapped down in the black wiper cowl so was replaced.

Truck will be 3 years old next month and I'm just shy of 13,000 miles. I did take out a Ford warranty for 75,000 miles that would end in 2029. Just watch, I'll probably be out of warranty if/when any major problems start happening.

You might try a Sync reboot to see if that helps.

Press and hold the Power button and then also hold the media FFWD button for about 5 seconds.

This should reboot the system. It won't erase any of your preset information.

I'm in kinda the same situation.

I took out the extended warranty mainly due to the HVAC box issues.

I average about 500 miles a month (28k miles in 51 months of ownership) so my warranty will likely run out by time way before mileage.

This is the first vehicle I bought a factory extended warranty for. My guess, is with the mileage I put (about 18,000 per year) plus the history on it (I’m the original owner) it wouldn’t hurt to have Ford Protect.

I will probably run out of mileage before the 10 years is up, but the price ($6400) made sense as it’s about the cost of one major repair. So an engine swap, trans repair, or a bunch of small items (like backup camera, APIM, radar sensors, or HVAC blend door) could easily add up to the price of the warranty.

We will see…right now Ford is not winning on the factory warranty and I barely use the truck like a “truck”…it’s more a leisure vehicle.

Your coolant issue might be that egr valve part. There won't be any codes but if it gets bad enough, it'll take out your head gasket from what I've read. I'll be replacing mine for the sake of it since I now have almost 84k on the odometer.
