Alright so I am wanting to upgrade my tires from the stock Dynapro ATs that came on my Ranger. The sidewall has already been chipped and they just aren't as aggressive as Id like for future plans. The following are what I am debating between, curious to what others have used or vote for which I should pick. Ideally a tire that can be bought and installed through discount tire as well. Currently running 265/65/R17s but would like slightly larger so either 265/70/R17s or 275/70/R17s. Not sure 285s would fit. I actually like the stock wheels so ill be keeping those as is. In no particular order:

1) BFG KO2s
2) General Grabber ATX
3) COOPER AT3 LT or AT3 4s
4) Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain AT
5) FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T3W

Wildpeaks at3w best AT tire I’ve ever used in snow or rocks, sand could be better, but i put 50-55k on my fj which had 1200 lbs of armor on it. I’ll be going with them when these oem hankooks run the course.

I do like the Falkens. I put a pair on my wifes AWD Highlander, just not sure I am in love with the looks for my truck or not.

They aren't on your list, but I got a set of Toyo AT3s and LOVE them. GREAT traction in snow and mud and relatively quiet on the road. The only negative is the loss of MPG, but you'll get that with any tire. I found the Hankooks to be good at one thing - MPG - but I hated them in the snow and mud.

Fun fact: BFG tires run a bit on the small side. The 285/70r17 KO2 will fit on a completely stock Ranger, but kiss the crash bar when the wheel is cranked in reverse. I ended up going with 255/80r17 (I'm modified) but the 285 will work.

If you are going with an all terrain, the KO2 is the king. I wish I could have gotten them but they aren't made in my size. When I move to my next tires, I will probably swap sizes and go back to the KO2. I ran them in 265/70r17 and they were awesome.

I’m biased towards #1

Not a fan of 1 and 2 at all. If I had to choose one of the 5 I would go with 3. If you are open to other options I suggest the Firestone Destination XT. In 265/70-17 it is a Load Range E LT but I can Promise due to its Lightweight Nature it will not be as harsh conpared to other Load Range E tires. Also the wet traction is great on that tire. I ran it on my Ranger in 285/70-17(had a lift too) and never had a problem with the tires. I do have a write up on them and suggest taking a look

Why are you not a fan of 1 or 2? Those firestones actually look great, I've just never gone to firestone for tires...

2 is just a knock off of 1 to start. Also both are not that great with wet traction(I did plenty of slip and slide with both, a set of the KO2's on the 93 Pathfinder now and a set of the ATx on the 92 Pathfinder that went Rolling). Also the KO2 and ATx will puncture fairly easily. I ran a set of the Destination XT's on my Ranger and Service Van(yes I convinced the boss) and never got a single puncture. Winter traction was also great.

Interesting. My biggest turn off for the KO2s was the lack of wet traction but I like their abilities in mud and snow. I wish the tires didnt look so good. Ill definitely research the firestones, they look meaty!

I know they're not on the list but have you checked out the Toyo AT3? Great tire on/off road......aggressive tread and quiet on the road! Just putting it out there!

Do you have experience with their wet traction? I ran them in rain and snow in Colorado and they were great.

Another vote for Discoverer AT3 4S. Tougher and more capable than what you have now, while also quieter on the highway.

@RangerMags, thank you for your support.

You have a solid list of tire that are popular, which tire is best for you depends on many factors such as looks and what type of driving you are on.

If we can help in any way please let us know.

if you need an a/t tire a ko2 it very hard to beat. in rainy weather they are more slippery than the stock tires / street tires. but any true off road tire is gonna have some draw backs. ko2 tires are a compromise all the way around. i would not claim them to be the best at anything, except the best all terrain tire that is up to handle most anything. Falken is gaining popularity and i have heard good things. ive had a few sets of good year tires in the past and all of them were less impressive than the cost would imply. worst tire ive ever had was a good year wrangler rt/s or something like that. first drop of water on the pavement and truck was in the ditch lol.
