Hi All,
I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and now I’m a new member. I’m in the market for A Ranger as a platform for an overland build. I’m not sure yet if it would be a multi-purpose rig or a dedicated build for backcountry trips.
I drove a Ranger last year for 3+ weeks in Africa as a rental from Avis Safari Rentals. We put 1500+ miles on it driving on washboard dirt roads and sand trails in Namibia and Botswana. We slept on the roof in an Alu-Cab tent every night except the first and last nights The truck had a 2.2L 4 cyl turbo diesel with a 6 speed auto. I don’t know the suspension specs, but it was lifted a bit. I enjoyed driving it and it took the abuse I put it through pretty well. It had almost 100.000 km on the odometer by time we were done
Based my good experience and research online, including here, I’m looking to buy a truck and start on my US Ranger journey. Thanks in advance for your help in answering my questions or pointing me to threads that have already covered topics I raise.
I’m based in the Denver Metro Area. This will be my first truck purchase. I have a couple of vintage Datsuns I tinker with and a BMW E39 wagon. Our daily drivers include a Honda Accord and a Jeep WJ and KL. I like to do my own wrenching and troubleshooting.
Here is a pic of the truck we had in Africa:
