Ordered in Jan, picked up in April. Supercrew FX4 Lariat - loaded. Now 2,300 miles. Longest drive, 1000 mile 2-day trip.
- Really wanted the 6' box but the de-limiter was the 90 degree rear door opening. The F-150 opens 170 degrees. It was a feature I really disliked on my 2005. Trying to load anything behind the front seats in a parking lot is impossible To me the issue is huge, but no one else complains so clearly it's me.
- Ford, what were thinking by not making the rear seat back fold flat and latch down for loading. Cheap fix.
- Wife likes red and I didn't care so ordered the Pepper Red. In one month of ownership have had at least a dozen folks approach me and indicate if they were buying a new truck this is the color they would order. That comment is usually preceded by, "Nice truck." Never had that happen in my long and old life. Not even with the RS or the two new Carrera's I've owned.
- I live 6 miles of hilly gravel road from the highway. Although the 10-speed transmission is excellent in most circumstances, it does not perform well driving the typical 20-30 MPH on those roads. It will upshift to a higher gear, then, when climbing a hill, the throttle is pushed down, down, down, then shifts down a couple of gears and the truck takes off. It's discerning. To overcome this I select Sport mode and manually leave it in 3rd or 4th but shouldn't have to do this. Next I'll try Sport mode all the time and see how that works.
- Manual opening sliding rear window. Again, Ford, what were you thinking.
- I'm okay with the Lariat instrument cluster but agree with Mike that over-all, the XLT cluster is better. I have Nav and the right screen has the next turn even tho the big screen is not in the Nav mode. I like that feature. The left screen has more info than one can imagine and, depending on the view selected, is too "busy." I also question how Ford determined what needed to be on each of the 8,000 individual screens. Interestingly, and although all this information is crammed into one or two of the many available screens, the water temperature gauge is only available on the two trip screens.. Guess it's not important (tell that to those living in Phoenix).
- Although I have the FX4 package and it's a little too stiff for my liking, the truck seems to "wallow" on the highway or perhaps I'm just used to the RS. Might upgrade to poly bushing on the sway bars. And perhaps the FX4 suspension will loosen up a bit with a few miles.
- Would like a heated steering wheel (hey, it's WY and overnight lows the first week in July are forecast at 25 degrees) and a sun roof when driving through the mountains. Remote start is great at below zero temperatures.
- Buttons for HVAC/heated seats are too small. Example; hit "max defrost" when attempting to turn on seat heat. I prefer the buttons to the screen but a slight relocation would work too.
- Would buy electric step bars if they were available aftermarket. The factory bars are only a couple of inches down from the door sill and out here fill up with mud and slush to the point the bottom of the door scrapes.

Enough complaining. Overall I love the truck. Plenty of power, solid, quiet at speed and comfortable. The B&O sound system is great for my old ears too. Plenty of room front and back (I'm 6'2"), headroom too. Might raise the front of the front seat a little for my long legs tho. I don't use the "lane assist" and am getting used to the Adaptive Cruise. MPG is mid-to-low 20s. I can live with that. All in all it was a good purchase. Oh, and BTW, my dealer warranties the engine for life. I might make a Youtube clip on changing the oil when the time comes so I can see if it's as big a pain as some say. Currently there are no clips.

Welcome!

I have basically the same drive from pavement to my home. You might check the build date on your truck and see if it needs the Transmission TSB done. My truck did the same nonsense, but after the TSB was done, it's now smooth as butter.

OF course nobody tells you "nice truck" a Carrera is not a truck and neither is an RS.

Good catch...:). Never got as many "nice car" comments or the like with those although the RS gets more interest than the Porsche's ever did, which sometimes just got the "bird" from others.

I'll check the TSB thing - thanks.

Porche is played out, every 50 something pre-retiree ends up with a black one or a red one where I live, the RS is more like a rare jewel that you only see one or two of (even in Detroit), and they are usually moving fast so you don't get a good look at them.

I got one of the very first FoST's and it was the same way for a while, now you see them everywhere.

:)

I bought a '13 ST and when Ford stopped production of the Focus gave the ST to my son and bought the RS and immediately installed a full DSC suspension. Just got back from a 2,000 mile trip with it. A pleasure all the way. Funny your note about the Porsche. Ordered mine and like you noted, it was black with tan leather, sunroof coupe. Heated, sport seats which were rare at the time.

I'd have an RS now, but I could't do 50K on something I was going to put 100K miles on in 3 years, and wasn't very practical (I really use my truck). Also helps me to not have a vehicle that can exceed the highest speed limits by a factor of 3 :)

I may be misunderstanding, but my standard setting on the left screen is Tach with Gas gauge and Water temp combined.

Edit, found a pic similar to what I was thinking

Do you know how to lock out gears while still in D mode? Just hit the minus button [x] times without going to S mode. You'll see the indication in the green shaded area in the pic above my post. I find myself locking out 9-10 on 55mph roads and occasionally 7-10 on a 30mph road. Keeps it from hunting so much and retains normal operation up to that point.

Coming from a RS to a Ranger would be a little shocking I found the same thing coming from a Escape. The Ranger has a much firmer ride more old school like truck ride if you'd drive a F150 you'll find it has a more car like ride.

True, but the new Ranger has a VASTLY improved ride over the older Rangers. I had a 2005 and it was VERY "trucky". My new Ranger is more "SUVish" - much more refined. Maybe not as good as a new F-150, but WAY better than the earlier Rangers.

The wife and I took a little drive yesterday for our first real outting and i am very pleased with the ride. We traveled a mix of in town, open 2 lane roads and freeway with a mountain pass thrown in. I found the ride to be very comfortable. It was just a touch more firm than her Escape, but had much better acceleration. Now it doesn't corner like my old Mustang GT, but i was happy that it did take corners better than any 4WD vehicle I've ever been in before.

@t4tgfavor.l Although the RS is more "rough around the edges" than the Porsche, speed comes effortlessly. And it still impresses me how the RS continues to pull strong at high speeds. Without admitting to anything but when telephone poles begin to look like picket fence it's time to slow a little.

@toddiscdn . Your left screen is the same as the one I use. Still, I believe having a temperature gauge would be a good thing. Somewhere like the bottom of the speedo for example.

@dmeyer302. Yes, I'am aware of the gear lock-out feature. After a member's suggestion, I've been trying Sport mode in total. Question, in Sport mode, at what speed will the transmission shift into 10th? At 65-70 with a light foot the transmission is still in 8th.

@EcoRanger. As you noted the ride is much better than the older Rangers (My '05 for example) and since we also own a '17 Escape direct comparison is possible. Clearly and understandably the Ranger has a firmer ride. Although the Ranger's ride is firm it's not overly so and not uncomfortable. It does hit potholes quite hard to the point I want something able to handle those potholes better. My 6 miles in is full of potholes and daily driven, making it somewhat "painful." The nearby highways seem to make the truck "wallow" a bit, noticeable and a bit uncomfortable. A compromise by the engineers I suspect. The suspension can't be everything to everyone. Okay with that.

@redland. Yes, exactly.
