This past weekend I went to stay at a cabin in the woods....and on my drive back, I opened up my glovebox, and it just showered down with sunflower seed shells! I usually don't keep much food in my vehicles, especially if we go camping/in the woods. But this time I forgot about my pack of sunflower seeds in the glovebox, lesson learned.

My concerns now are two fold:
  1. How the heck did the mouse get into the glovebox? Glovebox was closed the entire time. No evidence that the mouse got in somewhere in the floor. No mouse droppings, nothing. Took the glovebox out and stuck my head inside the dash. No mouse droppings, no evidence of chewing, nothing. There are three avenues I can think a mouse can get into the cab: wiring harness grommet through the firewall in driver footwell, passive vent between cab and bed, or through HVAC ducts. Any other options?
  2. How can I be sure the mouse is gone? It's been a few days and I haven't noticed any issues with the car in terms of functionality or smell, but I can't say for sure... I've never dealt with having a mouse in my vehicle. Anyone have any tips?
Thanks!

I had to set mouse traps in the passenger floor board when I had my copilot on board. If you don't have all-weather floor mats, set down a piece of cardboard or something so he doesn't bleed all over.

Passenger side under the cowl has two giant wide open entry holes into your cabin with a straight shot into your glove box. I put some 1/4” hardware cloth over the holes after finding mouse turds in my box while camping. There is a thread on here somewhere that shows some photos of these entry points.

Thanks all! I'll set a mousetrap on the floor overnight for sure. I'll check the cabin air filter as well.

Earlier this year we were going camping and I put some dog food in a Walmart bag with other stuff and left it in the cab overnight. The next day I was moving stuff around and when I grabbed the bag dog food started falling out and then a mouse. It had chewed a hole through the air filter and shit throughout the truck. I wasn't very happy but it was my fault, lesson learned.

Mouse trap on the floor set with peanut butter. Leave it overnight. If he is in the truck he will be trapped in the morning.
Believe it or not, they actually eat cheese also! I set mouse traps out one night to catch some and my buddy laughed his ass off at me telling me that was a cartoon thing. The next morning we had four mice in four traps. I had the last laugh.

Holy s**t. Nightmare is an understatement. Truly appreciate you documenting everything though.

As a quick update, pulled my cabin air filter. It was intact, but there were mouse turds and some sunflower seeds. Looks like I got a mouse and not a squirrel as he was able to push the filter aside and get into the glovebox without chewing up the plastic vent right above the filter. Going to check the cabin air intake later as well. Thank you!
