I believe you can see an actuator working just above the throttle pedal when you turn the key on or off.

For dual automatic climate systems:
There are 4 total actuators in the system
1. Blend - moves air distribution to selected vents
2. Drivers - temp control
3. Passenger- temp control
4. Air Inlet -Recirculation Door

The Blend and Drivers - are located just above the gas pedal and inboard.
The Passenger and Air Inlet are located behind the glove box.

Lol, if so it is a trapped squirrel that only makes noise when I turn the truck off and he’s been in there for 6 months and evaded the Ford mechanics when they removed the dash to perform the HVAC recall.
A very patient squirrel!

Thank you! It is actually at the dealership now, they have had it for almost a month and it took a lot of back and forth to get them to acknowledge the truck was making an abnormal noise. I am going to follow up with them again tomorrow, was hoping someone here would have had the same issue and know the fix. Thank you for the information though! If I get it back and they haven’t fixed it may see if I can locate it myself.

Lol, yeah I have been too patient. I have a loaner car from them that I’m putting miles on and it is under the 3yr/36,000 warrantee until mid August so I’m trying to get them to do the squirrel removal.

Next time you go in, they'll have changed management and you'll have to start all over...

I hear this in our Everest also. I thought it was hot water perking through the system. ?

If that were the case (with our heat) here mine would sound like a Dunkin' Donuts shop!

My ‘19 does the same. When I first noticed it a couple years ago thought it might be a rodent but it was not. My HVAC seems to work fine.

I just chalk it up to ‘normal operation’ of the truck’s systems.

I just remembered something, amazing I know.

My '19 made a crackling/popping noise once in a while. It almost sounds like plastic expanding. Nothing like the OP's noise though. Someone on here long ago said there was a coolant line which runs behind the plastic face piece and that's what's making the noise. Not sure if it's true but I only heard it in the summertime and when the ac was on. Now on my '23 I've never heard that noise but maybe they rerouted it?
