Mixing oil

Heh, I had to put automotive grade oil in a lawn mower once because I realized after I drained it, I didn't have lawnmower spec oil.

Poured in 5w30 dyno oil. 5 minutes into the grass cut she blew up.


Nothing related to the topic but did bring up that random memory.

I have only used regular automotive oil in lawn mowers, pressure washers, etc.

LOL my subi is currently a self changing oil machine . . .

gotta buy another couple quarts to get me through till my truck gets here... hopefully before mid-december.

I wonder if this is why they moved the oil filter to the top of the engine in the newer models.
Just change the filter at recommended intervals. The oil doesn't stay in there long enough to wear out.

In my experience, they don't really burn the oil so much as they just leak it out all over the place.

That might be in . . . our 2018 outback has the top mount filter. . . it is hers, and doesn't seem to leak . . . yet.

Mine hasn't burned any oil - I have no blow by etc - it just dribbles out under the car. . . really smelly when it drips onto the exhaust wrap I put on (trying to quiet that raspy sound the exhaust has on thin walled headers) . . .
