Did my oil change last weekend and I usually empty/clean out my oil catch can at the same time. I usually just unscrew the bottom of the can instead of removing the drain plug. But for some reason, I couldn't remove the bottom of the can because it's seized up. I ended up removing the whole unit to see if I can get a better grip but with no luck. I don't have a pair of channel locks that big or a bench vise. So I decided to see if I can purchase a replacement can from Mishimoto. Holy crap! That thing is expensive! So I looked at other alternatives. Wouldn't you know it, I found something similar on eBay for 15 bucks. It seems to be identical to Mishimoto's minus obviously the branding. I also purchased some hose end caps and some hose separator to clean up the installation a bit.

It turned out pretty good I think. I made sure to put a little anti seize on the threads this time to make sure this issue won't happen again.

Any of you guys that have this system run into this issue before?

Do you have enough space for it?
Yeah, the can stops about an inch above the silicone hose for the intercooler.

I don't have a mishimoto branded can though, just some cheap $30 from amazon.

I’d just throw the whole thing in the garbage.

you are having issues now, you will have issues later down the line. I’m looking at the 10 ft of rubber hose that will likely rub on something and/or swell up. And then cause a leak.

how much oil is really in the catchcan? The benefits later down the line at 300k is negligible. This is the 5th and 6th owners problem.

Sorry for the rant but I thought about getting one of those systems then I thought, this is not going to help me one bit only the 6th owner of this truck. It’s just going to cost me 3 tanks of premium.

I wouldn't go and throw it away literally. Well, my faith in the brand have made me "throw it away," metaphorically speaking. It's done me well until up at this point. I did re-check the installation and re-routed the hoses and added paddings to potential areas it may vibrate on and rub a hole that can potentially cause a leak. I've added hose separators so it would rub against each other or other components. I've made sure it's clean of any substances to make sure it wouldn't prematurely deteriorate.

As far as how much oil it's capturing, its surprisingly quite a lot. Especially around this time of year that it's a bit cooler outside, it captures a lot more than usual. Enough to have a peace of mind knowing it's not going back into your intake system and gunking things up.
