Hello everyone,

I'm currently in the planning phase of getting the Mickey Thompson 255/85R17 shoehorned onto my Ranger.

Right now I'm looking for wheel reccomendations. I was hoping to try and find some 17×7 wheels to maintain the skinnyness of the tires, but am unsure if they'll clear everything on the knuckle.

Pickings are thin for 17x7s with our lug pattern, so I was looking at some Toyota TRD wheels but it'll be a moot point if they don't fit.

Does anyone have any experience with these tires and have any guidance on a good wheel to pair them with?

Thank you in advance!

You should be fine with the factory wheels at 8" wide. However, you can always get the Bronco 6G OEM steel wheels at 7.5" This thread here on Bronco 6G shows them mounted up. Just scroll down a bit.

Thats perfect, thank you!

I have the 18" wheels from a special edition package so I need new ones anyway. They look absolutely awesome on the Broncos steelies.

Now I have to start looking for some takeoffs! Thank you

I'm glad it helped. I had been looking at this setup as well and stumbled across the Bronco application. Show some pics once you are done :like:

Not to be a bother but since I have your ear I figure I'll ask;

I'm hoping that the Eibach Pro 2.0 kit and the Ready Lift crash bars will give me enough room to get these tires to fit. During your travels have you seen any indications this might work?

Again, thank you!

Wider wheels with a less positive offset and wider tires are the main limiting factor for people going with taller tires and a lift. Since you plan to use the OEM steel 17" wheels that are 1/2" narrower along with narrow tires, I believe you will have a good chance of fitment when using the Ready Lift crash bars. Plus, the Eibach lift allows for height adjustment up front. Just keep in mind that once you get close to 2.5" that aftermarket UCA's will be required to get the alignment correct.

Please post pictures once you have them installed on whatever you get.

I'm planning to move from 285/70 to these 255/85's myself sometime this year.

Awesome, thank you. The only other lift I ever done was on my 2003 F150 that had a 6" lift so fitment was not even close to being a concern. I'll have to look into UCA's.

Of course. I've already sourced some Bronco takeoffs for a good price, hopefully I can pick up the Tires later this week, then its just down to the Eibachs showing up.

@NvrFinished thank you for guiding me to these wheels. I had spent a couple weeks trying to find a correctly sized wheel that looked good and wasn't ridiculously priced and now I already have the wheels basically in the bag.

You're welcome. This is a great forum for information and the people that participate here do a good job of helping each other out with questions. There are people running LT255/80R17 with the factory 8" wheels, a 2" leveling lift, and no modifications to the crash bars. I think you have a good chance with the fitment.

I have the Eibach Stage II 2.0 with rear reservoirs on order that I should be receiving shortly. I also have a set of the rear global leaf springs sitting in the garage to go with it as well. I plan on using my factory wheels but have not decided on a tire size yet. I was looking at LT255/75R17 KO2s since they are light and my truck is a daily. However, I do offroad in our local mountains and desert and have had my eye on the MT's. The weight is the one concern. How yours fits and performs has me interested.

Quick update:

The Eibach's arrived this weekend.
Drove 8 hour round trip to pick up some Bronco Steelies for cheap.
Picked up the tires from a nearby Tire Rack.

After probably too many beers, and broken plastic clips, I was able to remove the old intrusion bars and replace them with the offset ones without cutting.

Gonna try and get this all buttoned up or close to it this week.

Disaster.

Decided while I was waiting to get the tires mounted and balanced to put on my PPE deep transmission pan.

Instructions said torque the bolts to 18-22 ft lbs.

Started at 15 ft lbs. Snapped a bolt right in half. Thankfully they arent blind holes so I'm trying to work it out now.

Sorry about your oil pan.

Consider adding a one inch (no more, no less) spacer to those stock offset wheels front and rear. Stage3 sells good ones. They'll correct your scrub radius and make the sidewalls flush with your fenders.

Smart tire size choice.

Dang... I was going to suggest checking those torque numbers. However, I just saw that you started a different thread with the problem and that bad instructions with incorrect torque numbers were the culprit. Hope you get it rectified and your project back on the road!
