I was reading one of the earlier posts about the factory lugnuts which are two piece units and the problems associated with them. Has any used McGard lugnuts? And if so any problems with them?
Sorry to beat this dead horse but I do want to replace mine with quality ones.

TIA

Looks promising, but I would probably go down to my local tire shop and purchase something. A reputable place of course, they may even put them on for you and torque them. (you will need to check them in again in 50 miles to be re-torqued). Support a local business and you never know... when you might have a hazard and need their help. Always good to have a local shop that you know on your side.

I have them on 2 fords right now. Much better than 2 piece oem lug nuts. They are an American company and have been around a long time. I'm not sure how they compare to other brands in quality. I will be interested to hear what others think.

Edit: after reading some other post, maybe Mcgards arent the best choice for ranger wheels.

I’ve always had aftermarket wheels on my Ford pickups and have always run McGard lugnuts. First off they are quality chrome and I’ve never had any issues with rust.

Hi Sammy,

Unless McGard has increased the 60° cone area to mirror the OEM lugnuts...I would avoid the McGard lugnuts.
JMO...

best,
Phil

Thanks for pointing that out, Phil! I went with McGard on my focus after every single lugnut would get stuck in the socket, or was to weirdly shaped to be removed. Im gonna send them an email and see the degrees for the cone seat area. Quick question for anyone, I've seen it discussed multiple times on the forums, but maybe i missed the 3/4 ones. Would these gorilla's be okay (12x1.50)? I searched the amazon reviews for this and used the keyword ranger, no one mentioned it. But based on how i understand it, that should fit. Any help would be appreciated. Dont wanna repeat of my focus when I do my second oil change!

Assuming you highlighted the row for 12x1.50, then yes those will work.

Hi,

I do not thing the 60° is large enough to mirror the OEM lugnuts. More info needed, but from the picture...yeah...they will "fit" but do not offer the correct bearing area....

Thanks for the input Phil! Do you happen to know the correct area I should be looking for?

Hi,

Measure the 60° area of the OEM lugnut. You want a replacement that is the same as the OEM.

best,
Phil

Thanks Phil. I value your judgment since you are pretty much the ranger godfather!

If you go to McGard's site you can get application by vehicle. They list four for Rangers (I was just looking last night) a chrome and a black for OE wheels and a chrome and a black for aftermarket wheels. They cost more but are guaranteed for life. I've used them as replacements on several vehicles in our family. If you hold one in your hand and another lug nut in your other hand you will see that the McGards are noticeably heavier. They are not always the same size as the OE so may need to keep another lug wrench in the vehicle although the ones I saw on their site seem to be the same size as stock.

McGards can be ordered directly and with the correct degrees..
It's not the angle, but the surface area. McGards do not have a flange, and the cone has ~50% less seating face to engage the rim.
