Maximizing Battery Life

She is doing very well, but my daughter took the kids out of the public school system and has been home schooling them for the last 8 years.

So much corruption, and "group think" going on. They literally were brain washing those kids. They actually made the kids choose their sex in class, and the list was far greater than 2. And they did it in secret.

The young lady is well adjusted, and loves the structure. She is actually learning far more and is well rounded. She is thoughtful, and has been taught critical thinking skills.

She has flexible time and has learned time management skills as a result. She and her brother are 4-5 grade levels above the public school levels. She's been taking college level courses now for 3 years.

Yes, public schools are ruining our kids.

I checked with my (Fluke) and ......
During the test - I had 14.29 volts on my Fluke and the (Plug In = 14.0) so specific to the plug in its actually .29 volts off.
The funny thing is - the wife recently bought a (Plug in) for her Jeep (USB) style with the meter and what did I get on that meter - 14.29 volts

Can I at least have some Dipping Sauce?

I have not tested yet, but I used a similar digital volt plug in unit for convenience. What I find a bit interesting is that it reads identical voltages on my 2005 Ranger, but reads 0.2v lower on the 2020 Ranger. I used my 2005 Ranger to validate the plug in unit was accurate when I found the discrepancy with the 2020 Ranger the first time around.

I haven't checked the voltages in my 2020 yet with my meters in both locations, but I may end up eating a serving of crow myself.

I'll trust a Fluke any day over a cheap Chinese plug in. Having said that, I just checked my Fluke vs. my 12V accessory plug-in, and the plug-in reads about 0.05V lower.

I didn't know that the public schools had changed this much since I graduated from Sam Rayburn I.S.D in 2002. I give your daughter credit for choosing to home school her kids.

I have multiple battery chargers that I depend on... BatteryMinders, NOCOs, 2 old school analog, and the most recent addition, a lightly used 2 year old CTEK MXS 5.0.

I'm writing to warn folks off the CTEK. They are not the reliable charger that built a solid following from 1997 - 2010. I don't know when the quality dropped, but the unit I bought died after a few uses, and I suspect it is from high heat. I ordered if via Amazon with a 5 year warranty, It didn't make 2 years with very light use. The good news is that the warranty instructions required you to work through the seller. Amazon refunded me the full purchase price as they no longer carry the product.

I have not opened it up (early versions had screws, the newer models are glued closed), and I'm not even sure it is worth the effort. I've got the background to repair it but I measured 145F internal temps while charging with it. And there are many failure reports out there regarding this model.

If I were buying new I'd go with NOCO or BatteryMinder. I've had long term excellent results with both.

I am using a noco 10, will attest its a solid device. Have a 2019 with original battery and ford stopped receiving truck status... I did a full recharge and the electronics are working properly... Interesting note, a well functioning battery you get 2 to 3 mpg better performance...

I've got a NOCO 5x2. It is a very well made charger. I just used it on 2 sets of UPS batteries, a set consists of a pair of 9aH 12 volt batteries that are wired in series... I unplug and charge them individually using the NOCO charger. I have 4 UPS boxes running 24/7 around the house.

I've been looking at the NOCO 10, and just pulled the trigger..

We just had a very close lightening strike that actually took out a natural gas line! About 50' had to be replaced. I'm talking about the 5" pipe feeding the neighborhood buried several feet under ground. Also lost internet access, and It blew out one of my UPS units. The strike was 100+' away through the woods and struck the ground next to the road. We had the strong smell of natural gas throughout the neighborhood, and lots of firefighters and repair workers doing what was necessary to contain the breach while it was being replaced. I could smell it inside my home!

Tall trees all around and it hit the grass next to the road. There are two internet service providers with cable and fiber optic, both went down.

I picked up a NOCO Genius 10 after doing a bit of research on their technology. I also own the BatteryMINDer 128CEC2 and ran a comparison analysis. Here's what I came up with:

Which one is better for common situations?

I believe the chargers compliment each other. If you already own a BatteryMinder Onboard Desulfator, I'd lean towards the NOCO Genius10. I believe the BatteryMinder Desulfator Tech is superior to the NOCO, but if the battery has suffered heavy sulfation, It is worth the risk of using the brute force of the NOCO Repair cycle to bring it back to a level where the BatteryMinder can then fully optimize the battery by reducing the crystals even further.

I like them both for different reasons, and it is nice to have both in my toolset.

BTW, I have BatteryMinder Onboard Desulfators installed on all my vehicles, and my batteries last a long time.

And neither charger negates the need for the BatteryMinder Onboard Desulfator, esp on modern cars / trucks like our Rangers.
