I'm having flashbacks to the movie Gung Ho. I love my truck, but some of you are experiencing that kind of quality on your trucks... Pride??? More pride in union strength than in job performed in some cases.
Bingo.

I roll my eyes at the "I buy only American crowd" which is as cringe-worthy as the firearms community that chants "mill-spec is best" - which is generally the exact opposite of what they think.

All a "made in America" claim mostly does is gives them this omnipotent ability to charge more for the same quality as Qui Jong-Chi factory from China. In fact your "made in America" product is probably still sourcing raw materials from China.

Ah yes, we have a cabal of corrupt leftist pay-to-play bolt screwers so lets avoid made in America and buy China, fellow Americans!

Well, we dodged a bullet up here - would have impacted Edge and Nautilus. ?
Too late for the Nautilus. 2024 model is built in China and will be imported.

I read about that - plans are that Oakville Assembly will become a battery/EV operation. I didn’t realize it was happening so soon.

I have always felt unions were overrated and have outlived their usefulness. I believe I have bought my last new vehicles so I really dont give a shit about the strike. And there is no kdoubt both sides are feeding the press their respective lines of. Bullshit and the people who are caught in the middle are being played

I could write all day about this, but I will just say this:

I have observed that many people are not on the side of the strikers. Mostly, it seems, they compare what they make to what the auto workers make. So they feel that they are underpaid so the autoworkers should also be underpaid. I think the corporations are laughing all the way to the bank as the workers of the country argue with each other and not blame corporate greed for them not being paid more. There are many reasons for this, but politics gets involved.

I have no issue with the autoworkers getting a raise. Souds like they are due for a cost-of-living increase. Now here are a few things that I find unusual about this strike:
  1. The 32-hour work week, especially after asking for a significant raise.
  2. The ending of the two-tier system for wages. This sounds crazy! Typically, more experienced employees make more money, because they tend to know how to do their job a lot better than new employees. My senior engineers tend to outperform my junior engineers significantly. They have knowledge from experience that the junior guys don't seem to have.
  3. The reinstatement of the pension? How about a 401k and a corporate match. Pensions are a thing of the past, and they will take the company down.
  4. Job security through the move to EV's? This looks like the biggest concern for the UAW by far. If we can believe the projections, the UAW may take up to a 40% hit in membership due to this. Did anyone say one thing to Joe Biden about this during his visit? If so. I must have missed it on the evening news. Unfortunately, this does bring politics into the picture. The major push to EV's is from the Democrats and the White House. The UAW membership should be very vocal with their opposition to EV's at this time.
  5. The UAW Boss bringing in social justice into this? LOL!

I struck a nerve with an admin about the cause of the high inflation and why the uaw members might be due for a cost of living raise and got my post deleted. They are due for one.
It just seems 40% increase and a 20% reduction in hours is a bit much.
