Hi all,

I am working with a nice dealership, no complaints about my salesman. However, the dealership claims they do not know how to arrange to apply incentives from date of order.

The "closer" insisted that the only incentives available would be those at delivery. Although this may work out financially, if it does not, I won't be buying the truck.

I called Ford corporate's dealer line and spoke to a rep who said that incentives were either order date or delivery, but since I didn't have a dealer code they were not inclined to go into details.

thats how its worked with any order i have done.

the incentives at the time are applied....if any better ones come along by delivery, they then apply them.

not sure what your dealers problem is with that.
its pretty straight forward

Can you speak to any particular process?

The dealer looked at the offer terms and said: "Look, it says there this incentive is only available if you take delivery before day x. Your truck won't be here till day y, so we can't use incentives available at time of order."

Thanks!

ive never had an incentive, that i knew of that had a "deliver before date"
Surprising thats even a thing when Ford is pushing factory ordering.

what incentive is it?
The terms of the custom order incentive itself has a must take retail delivery by day x.

When I ordered my truck the salesman told me "only incentives at time of delivery". But when I visited him last Saturday I questioned if there was a labor day weekend special and if any rebates were changing September 1st he said "if they are worse, we can use the incentives when you ordered". So, there is a way, I just don't know what to call it.

well, if your mystery incentive is specifically worded to that effect, then i guess its enforceable regardless of factory ordering stalling the process of delivery.

I don't mean to make it a "mystery" incentive. Here are the terms:

$1000 - Ford Retail Order Bonus Cash Certificate
DETAILS:
Ford Retail Order Bonus Cash Certificate (#38150). Eligible buyers may receive Ford Retail Order Bonus Cash on select new vehicles. Incentive may be incompatible with certain finance types or other cash programs, based on individual program rules. Take new retail delivery from dealer stock by 09/30/21. Residency restrictions apply. See dealer for qualifications and complete details.

@RANGER PRIDE, thanks for your help.

It seems bizarre to run these in month cycles where the order timeframe is several months?

Also, I am using x-plan so no negotiating on price?

Finally, they didn't ask for any deposit for the order (they said the truck would definitely sell if I didn't complete the transaction), and so I don't know if I am entitled to any "holding period."

Maybe the problem has something to do with how the dealership wants to place the order? It sounds to me (and I'm probably speaking about something I know far too little about to comment on) like they're trying to process it as a dealer stock order instead of a custom order.

Also, I am using x-plan so no negotiating on price?
This is correct, sort of. They cannot alter the official purchase price, but there's room for negotiations in other parts of the deal. For example: my dealership was able to lower the OTD price by just dramatically increasing the amount they were officially giving me on trade-in.

@jsphlynch,

I don't mean to belabor the point, but am I missing something? It seems inconsistent for Ford to title the incentive "retail order" as if it is for custom ordered vehicles, but then to reference "dealer stock?"

What does it apply to?

Exactly this^^^^^

Just make sure your dealers understands the incentives do not back up. If they go down by time of delivery you still recieve the ones that applied when you ordered. Don't take any chances. If they don't know how they work now, you don't want them to miss this little tid bit.

I agree it seems inconsistent, which is why "dealer stock" stood out to me.

I just consulted with Google, which led me to this link from Ford about custom orders qualifying for the $1000 bonus cash, and here's what it says about the offer details (note how it differs than the offer details for incentive you were offered, specifically stating that you have to place the order before 9/30):
"Place a new vehicle retail order for 2021 or 2022 Mustang, Bronco Sport, EcoSport, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Ranger or Transit Connect through a local authorized Ford Dealer on or before 9/30/21 and receive a $1,000 Bonus Cash offer."

Also note this from the FAQs:
"Is my ordered vehicle eligible for Ford incentives?
Ford can provide certain incentives for customer-placed orders. Ordering customers will be eligible for qualifying incentives at the time of order placement or qualifying incentives at the time of final delivery, whichever is preferred."

it is a bit confusing
On Ford's site the Custom bonus offer doesn't have a PGM #
closest I find is PGM #38150
It says if you place the order before 9/30 you will get the 1K bonus. which to me says you will get even if the vehicle arrives after 9/30 (although I am not concern as this PGM has kept pushing back the date)
It also says "for all offers" from "dealer's stock" so is your custom order dealer stock since it has to be sent to them and is technically their car before they sell it to you.

Custom Order Select Ford Vehicles and Receive a $1000 Bonus Cash Offer*
Place a new vehicle retail order for a 2021 or 2022 Mustang, Bronco Sport, EcoSport, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Ranger or Transit Connect through a local authorized Ford Dealer on or before 9/30/21 and receive a $1,000 Bonus Cash offer.  Offer not available on Super Duty , Mustang Mach-E, Bronco SUV, Transit, Mustang Shelby GT500 Mustang Mach 1, Ford GT, or F-150 Raptor. See dealer for complete details and eligibility

$1,000 Retail Order Bonus Cash (PGM #38150). Place a new vehicle retail order for a 2021 or 2022 Mustang, Bronco™ Sport, EcoSport, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Ranger or Transit Connect through a local authorized Ford Dealer on or before 9/30/21 and receive a $1,000 Bonus Cash offer. Offer not available on Super Duty®, Maverick, Mustang Mach-E, Bronco™ SUV, Transit, Mustang Shelby® GT500® & Mustang Mach 1, Ford GT, or F-150 Raptor. Residency restrictions apply. For all offers, take new retail delivery from an authorized Ford Dealer’s stock by 9/30/21. See dealer for qualifications and complete details.

this is exactly what has been explained to me by my dealer here in California and if it was any other way (aka shadiness) I wouldn't be buying my truck

I was reading a similar thread over in the bronco forum.
Boy do people get all steamed up when their opinion contradicts with another's.
.
The argument some were trying to make is the incentives (0% Financing) can be used from the order date. Other's argued against and cited from the language within the incentive's qualifications.
.
I'm not sure either way.
But it's pretty stupid to put out an incentive that can only be used at time of delivery - when nobody really knows when that will happen.
How is that an incentive?
