Loose door windows?

Noticed during my install of the window deflectors a while back. Is this a legit problem I need the dealer to look at, or is this another great example of fords craftsmanship on the ranger?

Windows go up/down fine enough, but when down they slide up and down about 1/4" and pivot/rotate about the same.


Sorry for poor video, hard to record on a phone and do this with my other hand at the same time. But you can clearly see the glass pivoting up and down.

Looks like every window on every vehicle I've ever had. There's gonna be some play in that mechanism.

Why do people bother Phil with every fleeting thought that enters their brain about their truck?

Dude was not a body or window engineer, nor did he help design or build our 5G Rangers. Although a VERY smart and interesting man, there's not a whole lot he can do for you here.

Do you ever provide anything useful, other than being a jackass? At least RP provided humor. Also phil can put me and the others on ignore if he wishes.


And bullshit on all vehicles having loose windows. My 2017 F150 had very little movement, same with my previous vehicles.

Next time you want to try to insult somebody you should quote them so you can make sure they see it.

I just popped in to see if you figured it out. I was going to explain it to you but after seeing your hissy fit I'll pass. Wouldn't want to be helpful or anything, apparently I've got a rep to protect.

To me this seems to be a bit too much play and It may be wise to have the dealer look at it... I'll look at mine when the rain stops...suppositorily about noon our time... I am not familiar with the actual window mechanism but a bit of play is to be expected. You might just visit the dealer on your own and check out another Ranger assuming they have any on their lot. In our test lab at Bldg 4 of the Engineering and Research we had an area dedicated to window mechanisms which spent time raising and lowering all the time 24/7...Think the objective was a million cycles... Anyway as the window/door was nearing its cycle lifetime...the door glass was pretty sloppy... Just my observation...

I just checked mine. I can get a tiny bit of up and down movement when it is half way down and stopped, but I have to grab it with both hands to do it.

mine seems a lot tighter than what you seem to have.

Was this all your windows or just the back or just one? My rear windows have about that much play but the fronts are much more solid.

I agree.

I just checked my rear and agree it has more play than the fronts.

I still have to grab it to move around (a cloth with pressure from my fingers isn’t going to move it much at all), when I hold it with both hands, maybe 1/4” up/down and 1/8” side to side.

Okay....my front side glass is rock solid for the front window and rear is about a plus or minus 1/8"

So if truly 1/4", My opinion is something is wrong with the window.

FWIW, the movement shown in the OP's clip certainly is more than I have on my Ranger, by a lot.

BUT, the last GM truck I had, had about the same as he shows in my front windows and the rears, were waaaay more loose. So loose that I really couldn't stand having then half down in the rears, it was just way too much rattling. This was a truck I bought new and never had any body damage.

I can't say it's exactly 1/4", as I'm just eye balling it.




As for my them all doing it, no the fronts are a little less. Still unnerving but the rears were what got me to go "Oh ****". They don't appear like they will suddenly pop free of their tracks, so I think when I have the dealer do the "official" oil change at 5k, I'll have them look at it.
