Never heard of a battery reset key capture mechanism...something's wrong with your ignition switch...

I would hook up scan tool and see if any codes. It may have a code in memory (BCM)
and or (PATS).
Basically, the truck is not receiving communication that the Ignition is Off and in Park.
It will most likely be coded - Ignition Key Removal (Inhibit) - Circuit

If after a code reset, the code returns then dig deeper, as it is possibility related to wire damage from accident.

Things to try.

1. Scan for Codes
2. Pull and Inspect (BCM-Fuse #18) this is a 3-Legged Fuse (Fuse box by left knee)
3. Rock Gear Selector - (In Park) - Note if helps, (Shift Cable -Adjustment)
4. Rock Ignition Lock Cylinder - Note if helps.
5. Try a second key - Note if helps
6. Reprogram all keys.

Good call on #3 AT, I'd try that first.
I've had a couple cars that wouldn't release the key at times until you moved the gearshift out of park and back in. Had panicked calls from kids on that one.
Keep foot on brake, move selector to park, turn off vehicle, remove key, take foot off brake.
