So after this following weekend I’ve come across some 21° and steeper hill climbs. The Ranger did pretty well but I’ve been tossing around the idea of upgrading the transfer case to a better ratio. I believe the ratio in 4Lo is like 2.717:1.

Does anyone have any information on the Model of the Ranger Transfer Case? I’ve searched around but I can’t seem to find anything that’s beyond basic stuff.

So I do believe you are correct on the current low range, but I'm curious as to why you feel the need for lower gears?

What all have you done to the Ranger as a refresher?

Like everything I've done to the ranger totally?

Coastal Offroad Front bumper
Front Winch
Mountune Intercooler
35's about to be 37's
Beadlocks
Flatbed
Fridge

Future mods will be:
Sliders
Rear winch
Trundle Drawer
RTT
Long Travel
LRA Tank
Dana front end

There will be weight to it but that's not really the reason for a better crawling gear in 4Lo. Just from the hill climbs I have been on I was thinking it would be a lot nicer having a better ratio.

Now that I have a better understanding of what you have done(and what you have already done) I would highly suggest a Final Drive change over the Low Range change. It would help you out more vs just Low Range when you get down to it.

How do I come to this conclusion? More of a combination of the weight and tires, but mostly the tires. With my Ranger I had I had both 32's and 33's. I honestly felt 33's was the limit before having to do a final drive swap on the Ranger(even though others feel different on it).

As for the Transfer Case model you should be able to find the plate on the back like most.

I already plan to change the axle gearing when I swap the front end. I’ll do those swaps first and set what it feels like. Haven’t really found much gearing charts for the ranger. I’ll crunch somenumbers to see what gearing is ideal with 37s before I just throw some gears in. The front will be ordered with the new gearing so I definitely need to figure the ratios out first before ordering it all.

As a recommendation I would go with the Final Drive Ratio that the Sasquatch Bronco has. It's already paired with the 35's and individuals have used 37's with no major problem to the drivetrain yet.

Yeah, chances are with that final drive it will be much easier while trekking OffRoad and help try to bring the MPG back on the road.

Just to give a little insight on the advantage of a Final Drive change, on my 93 Pathfinder it has 31's from the Factory with a 4.375 Final drive. I can go to 33's, but to keep the Speedometer Accurate and keep my power to the ground I would need to go to the 4.625 to do just that. Since the Ranger has 30's from the Factory (not counting Tremor of course) you would want to base calculation off of that. That can also help with keeping the RPM's close to factory when making Final Drive changes.
