Looks good Dave. Just think of all the mods you can do after the party is over. ?
Thanks Larry! I'll keep the contractors names on speed dial. ☎

I thought all us house-warming party goers were going to do the mods....you know, like finger and hand printing the walls, signing our site names on the ceiling, splotchy floor designs with the spilled beer.......
True but I figured Dave might want to add some of his own if there is any room left over. Thinking of it he might have to start from scratch.

Thanks Chris but I need more than a bump, more like a swift kick. lol Things were going a little slow for a while so I had to light a fire to get my builder moving. We technically have until June 1st for the house we're renting but I know we can stay longer if need but we don't want to nor do I want to keep paying for it.

I guess it worked because the stonework is done (inside and out), the trim is all done, septic is done and the painters started last Monday inside and out. They have the outside done except for the front door which is getting a Walnut gel stain and the 2 columns still need to be trimmed out in Hardi Board. The inside was all prepped and in primer as of Friday and they said it should be completed this week. Flooring is getting delivered on Wednesday and the garage door installed Friday. There's still a bunch to finish but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel now. We're still hoping to be in around mid May. ?

The whole back yard is the septic but we'll at least have some pretty green grass.

Trim is done but I didn't want to take any pictures of it primed Friday because they were all working there still.

Besides the coffered ceiling the fireplace is my favorite! The mason did a great job on it along with the front of the house.

Looking good, bummer you have to motivate the builder.

Thanks Steve! Yeah I was being nice about it and just kept reminding him when we had to be out. Since we signed with him he got really busy and took on way more than he can handle and I get it because I've been there myself. But one of the reasons I went with him was because he was a small builder and only did 5-6 houses a year. Now he has almost 20 going and just signed a bunch more on so it was time to keep reminding him over and over which seemed to work. Like most things in life things have really changed in the trades and they're not for the better.

Having built both my houses back east I never understood when I'd hear people say that building their house was a nightmare and was the biggest headache they've been through. Now I know! ?‍♂ Mine all went smoothly but I knew everyone from being in the trades and most were friends in business. I was able to organize it even though I was working 60-70 hrs/week running two crews but you really need to be very organized which he isn't. His wife has no clue about the building industry (she was a physical therapist) and now she's trying to handle a lot of it which is not working out well at all. But we're almost at the end so the worst is (hopefully) over. ?

Any updates. Moving in soon?
Getting closer. It seems no one out here knows how to measure correctly because everything from the border tile to the main flooring was short.. Rule of thumb is (or was) measure and add at least 10% but I guess they didn't get that memo here.

Then all the flooring was delivered wrong. It was the wrong color and wrong manufacture so of course no one has no idea how that one happened. ?‍♂Good thing we stopped by the night before they were going to instal it and noticed it or they would've had fun tearing it all out and reinstalling it. That was a week setback but the electrician was able to get in there and start plugging and switching. Luckily I know enough (and what to look for) and for the most part most of these are all just stupid mistakes but it still makes you wonder what else did I miss?

You'd "think" after I caught all these (and several other) mistakes the builder would've been there more often checking on things? Problem is now he's got so busy with other houses and has to much going on which I'm not happy about. One of the main reasons I went with him was because he was a smaller builder and only built 4-6 houses a year. I knew (or at least thought) I'd get better service this way but he's now got so many houses going he can't keep up. Been there done that being self employed and in the trades my whole life but you learn fast that you have two choices. Get more help or scale back and keep your quality so I'm trying to be patient since he's young and still has growing pains but it's wearing very thin now. At this point I'd say 3-4 more weeks but that depends on how much more stuff I find. lol

Sorry to hear about the delays but unfortunately that seems to be the norm these days. Even with all the issues you are having it won't be long now.

We just had a good experience repainting our house so props to you painters. ?

Your house looks great! :like:

Yes, unfortunately things just don't seem to go smoothly anymore (but that's with most things) but it is what it is. I guess I'm just use to working with guys who were way more organized and having me having OCD doesn't help things much.

The inside painting actually came out really good, much better than I anticipated. My builder even said they took way longer than usual and said I must of scared them knowing I was a retired painter and my expectations were high. lol

You can see two more mistakes by the upper left cabinet. I noticed this once the electrical was roughed in that those 2 outlets were way off. Of course he said they were fine and now have to be moved. The upper one was so obvious because it needs to line up right under the duct for the range hood.

Looks great, sorry to hear the little things are holding everything up. I think the problem these days is that there aren't many apprentice programs for youngsters. Also there seems to be a shortage of workers that take pride in what they do. I was guessing you would have been in by April 1 from the last post. Guess we have to reschedule the Bud Light dungeon digging party ?.

I love it when Dave and Annie go on vacation. It sure makes my job a lot easier. It’s a good thing (or maybe not) that Dave sent me pictures of their house. It‘s always hard to find places in new subdivisions - no street signs, no mailboxes, no house numbers. But, I finally got here and it seems like a nice place. Right now, I’m just sittin’ out front, waitin’ for @Blue Streak to show up. We have a lot of work to do to get this place ready for when Dave and Annie get back!

Larry - where you at?

Ah, looks like Larry was here all along. How’d he get in the garage? Dave must still be using 1-2-3-4 as his passcode, just like in Goodyear. Rookie mistake.

If I can’t find his fob, that thing’s just gonna be in the way. I told Dave he should have taken his truck on vacation but, oh no, he had some strange desire to rent a Prius or some other weird eco-friendly, taco-type car. I guess I’ll figure something out. ;)
