So I'm driving home the other day. Come up to a traffic light. Three lanes going straight. I take the left lane, some car takes the middle and a brand new Tacoma (sticker still in the window) takes the right.

Just past the light, the far right lane merges to the middle and I could tell the Tacoma was going to punch it and pull out in front of the car, and me...so he thought. I could see it in his face.

Light turns green and we all take off. Sure enough, I was right. I let him get next to me and I punched it.

BOOM...I smoked him..I mean like a 1/2" thick joint. I mean, it was embarrassing for him. I could see him just behind me to my right...and he was mouthing something. I'm sure it wasn't..."Wow, that Ranger is fast". We hit 70 before I let off the pedal. He merged behind me in my lane and turned onto a side street.

Now, I'm nearing retirement age and I have to say, that was FUN. I don't ever do the things like this but everything was right and I just didn't want to miss that opportunity.

Just wanted to share.

wait till you try Viagra in your morning coffee....

street racing aside, im also worried that you knew so many details about what was beside you and behind you. eye's on the road ahead sir....thats the stuff you're gonna cream at 70mph because you're not watching.
I was watching the road. Only quick glances at the Tacoma.

Yeah, I feel like not knowing of your surroundings, who's behind and beside you, is also a recipe for being creamed or creaming someone. All of the accidents I've almost had are because someone didn't look to see I was there when changing lanes or stopping short. Almost got forced off a bridge in my Focus by a jacked up Silverado once. Only thing that stopped me were the snow plow banks. He never stopped or even knew I was ever there or how close he was to killing me. Situational awareness is very low with driver's these days.

I agree with you , but misses the point of my post.
He claimed he watched him mouth the words of "by golly Jiminy that there pick me up must have one of those turbines" (or similar worded)is a lot of detail for a glance over the shoulder.
Well, actually, it was really a quick glance. I imagined what he was saying - didn't actually read his lips.

In any case, you brought up a good point but I was really paying attention to the road ahead.

I think my point was missed, IT WAS FUN.

Its all good.

I had a similar experience with Challenger recently. I got him off the line and he caught me as I let off doing about 65. When we stopped at the next light , he gave me a thumbs up. I knew I wanted the Ranger for many reasons,, but had no idea it would be so fast and fun to drive.

I had just got on an uphill onramp to the interstate when I noticed in the rear-view mirror some kid in a rice-rocket about 200 feet back who thought he was going to pass me before the merge. I think this was the first time I'd ever floored it in my new Ranger. I was nearly a quarter-mile ahead of him by the time I had a chance to see where he ended up. I was too far away to see the kid's face, but I'm pretty sure that was not what he expected to happen.

I got to run my buddies 2 year old Tundra this last weekend out on the Black Rock Playa from a dig to 100mph, the little Ranger was victorious by about 2 truck lengths.

I was recently in the Canadian Rockies, came out of a Fire Service Road to the highway and saw a long line of traffic coming from the right, looked left and nothing. I pulled out going left and pinned it to get ahead of the traffic. Uphill the truck accelerated to 140kms/hr fast - got us way out in front of the traffic, and had the wife asking me " what the hell ! "

I get that once in a while as well and my response is usually "I'm a guy, that's what we do".

The swelling usually takes a few days to go away.
