Is this a normal amount of aluminum dust?

Were you able to retrieve your old filter? Just curious what the top looks like.
Unfortunately, it appears that our trash day has moved and my filter is now out at the landfill somewhere. Actually quite bummed about that but nothing to do about it now.

That sucks. But you’re still under the 5/60 powertrain ( I know you have an ESP) and there’s an active TSB addressing your possible situation. If your 3-5 shifts continue their quirkyness then I would definitely contact your dealer. This isn’t the same as the d/shaft lube situation you had as there’s no TSB for that. You’ve gotten a lot of good advice on here so far. But a lot of it was from members whose trucks are not under warranty. Great advice if you don’t have the avenue that you do. I believe the outer shell issue will be like the next CDF drum type problem mostly with the later 5G’s

Good points all around and yes, I agree. Folks have been very helpful here!

If the truck keeps shifting funky throughout the trip after the fluid change, I'll go ahead and take her in when I get back. I haven't driven the truck since the post fluid swap drive since I commute in my Fiesta ST lol.

Generally the 3-5 shift is pretty easy to replicate if you accelerate at around 30% throttle if you do less than that or give it some of the beans, it usually shifts fine but I could replicate it with a tech in the truck I'm pretty sure.

Did the trans fluid swap last night on my 2023 Tremor at 51k miles. The fluid was very dark and the pan and top of the filter had a layer of what appeared to be aluminum dust all over them. Is this cause for concern?

The transmission generally shifts fine. Sometimes it has a hard 3-5 shift. Rarely does it have any hard downshifts but they do happen from time to time. No codes or anything. It does have what feels like the slip bump happening again after I thoroughly lubed the slip yoke about 1k miles ago.

I'm supposed to take the truck on a 4k mile trip starting this Sunday but I do not trust it and regret buying it because I'm constantly anxious about something failing and being left stranded. If I need to take my Fiesta ST on the trip I will. It just got a new timing belt and cooling system so it should be good to go.

Any advice is appreciated.

I would question if this trans has the upgraded trash can that's alot of aluminum or you have a a planet gear failure coming.

Ah. Wonderful.

I unfortunately didn't even look at the top. I pulled it out, set it in the pan to snap that pic and then tossed it in the dumpster. I'll try to dig it out when I get home. I'm actually wondering if this is clutch pack material, not aluminum. The coating along the bottom of the pan had a tiny bit of shimmer to it but I don't believe the stuff on the filter had any sparkle in it.
It's not clutches the clutches don't fail like that it's aluminum I do transmission for a living.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Read this TSB and view the images within it. It addresses the aluminum and your truck falls into this category. Looks like an outer shell failure in progress . Your 2023 has the updated CDF drum but not the updated anodized outer shell. This is where the aluminum most likely is coming from.
First I’ve heard of this one. Got to keep a lookout I guess. Overall mine seems ok. Not smooth like cat šŸ’© on a tile floor, but smooth enough by modern transmission standards. šŸ˜’ Going to do another partial fluid change in a couple of weeks.

Outer shell failure. Well that certainly can’t be a problem. 🤣
