I have the Procal4 performance tuning software on my 2020 Ranger and I recently had the dealership do a standard tuneup. Do I need to reinstall the performance tune? Also, how do I check to see if there is an update on the software. TIA.

Two questions here really... as I understand it. A. The Procal4 "version" and B. The tune file.

They do update the Procal4 software every so often. There are two cables provided in the box the tuner comes in... one has a ODBII on one end and a RJ42 on the other... this cable is used in the truck. The other has a USB Type A on one end and a mini-Type B on the other... this is for connecting the ProCal4 device to you computer to update it's software via the ProCal4 app on you PC. (mine is in the truck so can't plug it in to show the Ver#, serial #, etc.)

As to the actual tune file, I have not seen any updates in almost 4 years, though they did a (I think) optional version of the tune for those towing heaver stuff regularly.

Thanks, I would definitely be interested in a tune for towing. I pull around a pretty heavy camper. When I plugged my Procal unit into my computer, I did not see an option for an update like you showed in your response.

OK, you made me do it... got the ProCal4 out of the truck!! LOL

If the unit is NOT connected to your PC, you get the screen shot above... if it is, you get this (IF you have it set to Connect: Auto):
A:

(Connect: Auto.... B:

)

So photo A will show what's in the device Now. After logging in to Ford Performance (if Auto is on it will "press" the update button for you; if manual, you press it), it will download to your Device any "updates" and the version numbers will change. I updated mine in May, so photos above show that there has been NO updates since then.

PS: The little suction mount/stand works great on the desk top to hold the device while working on it...

OK, I was able to get a software update, now just need to install on Ranger.

I read some other threads about a towing tune, but can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks for your help!!!

When Ford Performance first released the ProCal 4 tune back around 2020 they recommended that it not be used for towing. They latter in 20 or early 21 they revised the tune to make it suitable for towing. There have not been any revisions to the tune since and there is no separate towing tune.

The firmware that makes the ProCal 4 device work has been revised several times but that has nothing to do with the actual tune you are loading.
