It's almost cheaper to get cable or satellite TV than have 5 or 6 streaming services. We've come full circle.
I haven't had cable in over 12 years. When I moved to AZ I cut the cord and just watched OTA (we got a lot of channels there) and had a Roku stick. I was using Kodi with an Android box for a while which worked out really good but it was getting to be a pain trying to find a link that worked and then a lot of the programers got shut down around 2018. I then added an Amazon Firestick and we stream mostly from there. Annies daughter has Paramount + so she added us to it. There really aren't that many good tv shows worth watching now and we end up watching a bunch of old reruns mostly.

This.

Hollywood has successfully curtailed piracy by making content that's so sucky it's not even worth downloading for free.

We have Zero monthly subscription streaming services and don't miss any of it.

We've had free trials of Fubo, Apple TV+, Netflix, YouTube TV, Paramount +, and a few others and never watched them.

It's like I told SiriusXM when they kept calling my phone to subscribe me after the trial ended:

"I never used it when it was free. Why would I pay a monthly fee to continue not using it?"

It's obvious that the writers for the shows nowadays have a completely different outlook on things than I do.

The other part about SiriusXM that I found a little ridiculous was that they'd give weather or local news reports for wherever that particular channel was HQ'd. I mean, the whole premise of XM is that I can listen to it even if I'm 1000 miles away from where it's airing, so why would you include something as irrelevant to a large portion of your target audience as what the weather is in a 10-mile radius of your studio??
Aside from that, I found that I was missing out on a lot of (in my case, Canadian) talent that wasn't being played on XM, but would be played on my local radio station, and at least the DJ's non-music jabber is somewhat relevant to me.

I think the biggest problem is the explosion in "content". Besides all the broadcast and cable networks, then you add in all the streaming services, and stuff like YouTube, the options for getting content today are almost endless. The problem is the studios still want the same money they were getting when they were the only game in town. At least here, it is what mostly killed cable. Our local cable TV station kept raising the rates - and most of the rate increases were due to local TV stations demanding more money for them to rebroadcast their signal over cable.

When you throw in that there really isn't that much that is actually worth watching on any of the options, it makes it even that much more ridiculous.

I've got Xfinity Stream with the premium billions of channels upgrade. Since last summer Bally Sports, now Fanduel Network, (Vikings/Timberwolves/Twins/Wild/Frost) was added to the premium package, it used to be in the main package. Then some of the games are on some whatever-plus channel, so there are fewer games at a premium price?!? Sports are what I watch the most and I have Amazon Prime mainly for the free shipping, and I watch TNF during football season. If a Wild or Twins game is on somebody-Plus, there's always Law & Order or NCIS on somewhere. My bill is about $7 less than it was with Xfinity Cable.

We went to a Super Bowl party yesterday. I haven't really watched football in years (only college ball) but went for the food and company there. Didn't watch any of the game but got a glimpse of the halftime show. It hasn't been the same since they let Jay Z take it over!

Apparently the media is praising it as the greatest ever.

Typical users online say it sucked like a Dyson plugged into a 240V outlet.

I haven't watched football in years.

Actually, I don't watch any televised sports at all anymore.

I don't have time to watch whiny brats complain that they don't get paid enough to play catch.

Thank you Dr. Z.

I generally don't watch pro sports but I tuned in the 'game' for the commercials, until the game looked like an embarrassing blow out.
The only commercial I remember was the RAM one. I liked it. Awesome volcano jump. Good stupid fun!

Halftime show was awful. I changed the channel after about 90 seconds. Who was that guy, and what does he do for a living? And yes, I'm old.
Sucked like a Dyson on 240v is an understatement.

I'm guessing there is more thought and practice in the dancing around, than there is in playing the 'game'.

I'm not the first to say, this is not sports, it's the entertainment industry.
Whew! I feel better.
Now, is there a smaller volcano near me...

Of course the media is praising it but we all know how much credibility they have now.

I'll admit I use to be a huge football fan all the way back from the 70's. Then little by little they made it to commercialized and political and I was done with it forever. I still have season tickets to the Cardinals and they're great seats on the (40 yard line row 12) but haven't stepped foot in there since 2018. I have someone who buys the whole season from me every year and he's a nice guy and I only keep them for him.

The only sport I still watch regularly is hockey. I've played it since I was 6 and have always loved the sport and so far it's not polluted. Sadly college football is starting to follow the NFL and I hope they don't continue to ruin it but I'm sure they will.

What's worse is I feel like crap this morning. Not from drinking (I drank water) but from eating way to much. lol

I guess there are enough people tuning in to warrant near 24/7 pre-game festivities. The TV listing said kickoff was at 5:30pm central time, Actual kickoff after an overly embellished National anthem, followed by the coin flip pageantry and another raft of commercials was was at about 5:43pm central time.

We had a marvelous smoked salmon dinner my daughter's house expertly prepared by my SIL; he's the King of Traeger, lol.
It was a nice time with the sound muted, and drove home during halftime. I watched the second half interspersed with the PGA Tour during the commercial breaks.

I hope they change the kickoff rules for next season, maybe if the ball goes into the end zone, the receiving team is spotted an automatic 3 points, or use a half inflated ball for kickoffs so it won't go into the end zone. Go back to onside kicks anytime, winning or losing. Playoffs are too long. How about the NFC team that rang up the most points during the regular season faces the AFC team that did the same. Boom.
No half time, but a 2 minute warning timeout at the end of each quarter. JB, Tony, Terry Mike, Gronk, Dino, Desi & Billy can find other work.
Close rant.

Am I the only one that watched Jurassic Park instead of turning on the game ?. I enjoyed it.
I'm trying to remember the last time I turned on the TV at all...
