Betty Boop was an extension of black singer Esther Jones, who performed as "Baby Esther" in the early thirties she was one of the early scat singers and had a childlike quality to her singing. She is credited with the scat line "Boop Boop Be Boop" line in her act that was Betty Boop's signature line. times being what they were in the Thirties and Forties, she never got credit and Betty Boop's caricature was of a white vamp.

Hahaha, maybe, but this was the wallpaper on one of my early phones. It's a single frame from a .gif file of her doing a hula dance. I think from her Popeye show debut.
