I installed a train horn on my dual sport motorcycle… got a few middle fingers from it while they were cleaning out their underwear… they deserved it… I only used it sparingly for those that needed waking up after running me off the road. I hope they look twice the next time.

no idea these existed. I imagine they are kinda like a lightsaber and can be used for both good or evil. I'm tempted.

The FlatLaw horn was $297 delivered. I had Tint World (they do a lot more than tint) install it and it took them 4 hours. So install was expensive but they did a great job. The whole deal is mounted under the bed just ahead of my spare tire. I have a separate button left of my steering wheel. I need to further develop my muscle memory to find the button quickly enough for those sudden moments when someone disserves a blast. I have a four year old neighbor kid that even though I warned him he jumped bigtime when I honked it. He laughed out loud afterward.

I think reasonable people can somewhat agree on that as specifically relates to "train" horns.
They are created to BE unreasonably loud and harsh for a reason, an seldom will an engineer blow one outside of when he's required to for safety reasons.

When you're near railroad tracks, you kind of expect at times to hear a horn blow and are less likely to be scared shitless by it unless you're just not being attentive to where you are and what you're doing. Hearing something that loud anywhere else can startle someone into a panic move they otherwise might not have made, or exacerbate a stupid move they're already making.

All this in my own humble opinion and experience, of course.

I have the dual PIAA horns on my motorcycle and they get the cagers attention in a hurry but wow a train horn. Way cool. I like.
