has anyone had issues with oversized mirrors and the mirror flipping in at speed?

my 2010 F150 mirrors would flip in if a transport truck made enough of a wind going the opposite way.

I'm just wondering if the stock hinge can handle the extra wind resistance?

Yup, I had a thread on it way back in 2019, towing my sled trailer on a nasty windy day and the drivers would fold in when a transport blew by, not every time, but most. Lariat auto folding mirrors and strap on trailer mirrors.

Since then Ive just taken to putting some heavy duty tarp/hockey type tape on front of mirror to its mount base. Works fine, just a precaution, as I figured it would be hard on the auto folder forcing it in like that.

You know, that brings back memories of an incident I had long ago. If your added mirror is mounted in a way that when the main mirror is folded in does the xtra one come close to the side windows? Had something like this and got a little close to some tree branches on side of road. Next thing I know the cab is raining glass. That thing folded flat into the glass and shattered it. Lesson learned.

Took the Ranger out, and up to 80 on x-way. Ranger mirrors rock solid with no problem with them trying to "fold".
Got a bit of vibration at speed on the attached mirrors, I guess from using flat stock for the arms.
As suggested, went to Lowes and got a piece of 3/4 inch square stock and re-did the arms.
No vibration at all now.
Also, as shown, when mirrors are folded in, plenty of space between it and door/glass.
Total outlay was around $54.00 for two mirrors and square stock. Can take off or install both sides in a minute or so...
Now, if only my travel trailer would come in....
