Hello All,

Had the HVAC guy out for our general maintenance on our HVAC. One thing he mentioned is to possibly have our Drip/Catch pans sealed to prevent rusting (another upsale item). Searching around online I found PANSEAL but that seems to be pretty expensive and the quantity more than I need. Would something like Liquid Rubber or Flex Seal work just as well?

Thank you for the suggestions.

Just built a house. Split unit w gas heat unit in attic and pan drain running out under the eves. HVAC guy says if we Ever see Any drips coming from that drain to call them Immediately, so it’s just kind of a fail safe. Should be a galvanized pan anyway.

Thanks for the reply Adam. Yes, this is just an over flow pan in case the condensation lines get clogged. I never even thought that the pans should be coated and figured it was just another "service" the tech was trying to sell. Since he brought it up, I just figured I could do it myself with something like Flex Seal to be on the safe side and save me some $.

Use the flex seal tape. Comes in rolls 5 or 6” wide. Just be sure surface is cleaned, degreased and dry before applying. Overlap the seams about 1/4” and it will last as long as the boat in the commercial ?

In a pinch before I replaced my furnace my drip pan rusted out too and let water run under my carpet in 2 rooms. After digging into the spot, it was too big (size of my hand) to use silicone or spray sealer, I had some hydraulic cement leftover from a job so I mixed it up and tooled it Into the defect and made sure the water could still reach the drain tube. Worked fantastic and lasted a year, that's when I replaced the furnace, made sure this one has a plastic pan.
