Looking for the advice of anyone whose installed the Hidden Winch mount on the 5G ranger previously.

I'm looking at installing the Hidden Winch Mount from Fab589 on my Ford Ranger (2020 XLT FX4 Blackout Appearance).
I bought a Rough Country 9500 Synthetic Winch, a Rough Country 7' Power Cable Quick Disconnect, and the Fab Four ACC Relocation Bracket M5350-1 (Note the ACC Bracket picture is wrong on that site and it actually looks like this.) I also purchased some Cloth Electrical Tape for use when rerouting the ACC as I've read it's necessary to remove the original tape.

  • My main concern is the cable length. Will 7' be long enough for the winch power cable to be routed from the winch, around any other front end components, and up to the battery? If not is it possible (safe) to extend the OEM power cable by connecting the 7" Quick Disconnect to the OEM cable rather than the winch directly?
  • My secondary concern is to make sure I haven't missed anything that I may need to order to complete this project.

Overall I'd hate to get the front end taken apart only to find I have to wait a week for parts I didn't know I needed.

Any advice? Thanks for any advice in advance!

I can't answer all your questions, but 7' should be plenty. I have the ARB summit (winch locations are basically the same with all winch mounts) and you can get a pretty straight line to the battery.

7’ should be plenty. Not sure if your control box is going to need to be relocated or not (or if jt can be) but if so you will need cable for that as well. I used a relocation kit from a company called Vice Designs to relocate control box from my Superwinch to a spot under the hood.

I just did this install. The control box is removed and installed in the engine bay which means you will need 4 2 awg cables with around 3 or 4 feet to run the cables from the winch up to the engine bay.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

@NerkyMohawk What did you use to mount the control box? I see Warn winches have mounting hardware available but I cant find anything for the Rough Country Winch.

I bought mine used. From my understanding according to the instructions it was supposed to come with a mount for the engine bay. Mine didn't so I luckily had a bracket from something else that allowed me to mount it behind my driver side light in the engine bay.

Thank you all for the help. @NerkyMohawk I reread the instructions after what you mentioned and Idk how I missed it on my previous read throughs but as you said it does mention an included mount along with some pictures. I have ordered some 2AWG cabling and will terminate it to the length I need.

I appreciate yours and everyone's help! I feel much better about starting this project now.

Yeah, I was about to say. I just got 25' of 2awg and put the ends on myself. Mounted the control box near the driver headlight and routed battery to a breaker on a plate I sourced from an old computer case. It's pretty tidy overall, kinda muddy... but hey, can't have fun AND stay clean.
