Here’s What We Know About The 2024 Ford Ranger

Not to throw salt in the wound but hopefully it gets build soon. They'll be shutting MAP down come spring for the change over and it'll end up being a '24 MY.

That would NOT be good. Not. Do not want the first model year. Period. Deliberately waited to get the last MY of this generation.

I prefer to think that the pressure of the new model launch will ensure that they get my truck produced as soon as they can. Just hoping that same pressure combined with support chain issues doesn't result in deletes. You know, like seats, steering wheel, transmission, HVAC, wheels, radio, fenders, etc. If just a chassis shows up I may just leave it at the stealership.

I'm sure they'd rather get it built and clean the books off for a fresh start. The only reason I mentioned this was I saw it happen last year when I ordered my Jeep. I ordered mine in October of '21 and it was a '22 build which they didn't start until mid December. There were guys who ordered theirs back in the summer and they didn't get built and got pushed to a '22 MY. Worst was they weren't first in line and mine got built during the first run and they were still waiting. Talk about a fun group on that forum thread. lol

Seeing as production is starting in May the order banks should be opening up in the next couple months. Then they'll need a few weeks for the changeover at MAP.

Yes. But NO formal US reveal, no specs, no pricing. Can't see why thats not out already.

Honestly, the 2.3 has plenty of power for this size truck, but I’m surprised Ford is apparently willing to allow their primary competition (GM) to introduce new trucks with significantly more powerful base engines. Maybe they will copy what GM is planning to do and offer the 2.3 with different tune options.

I really like how you can add the HIgh Output tune to the Colorado as a stand alone option. Hopefully the 6G will go the same route.

I'm not going to lie that ZR2 looks pretty nice with that HO motor. Playing around I built a fairly loaded one for under $55K and what's nice is the have heated and cooled seats.

The dates I saw show just a few days for the changeover......

What's the performance threshold for the 3.0 V6?

Has it been developed much in other platforms?

418/440 once you account for drivetrain losses isn't a very big jump from a 2.3 with $500 tune.

Is the motor, widebody, and suspension height the only thing the Raptor gets you?

If the non Raptor uses the same coil spring rear I'm really not seeing a whole lot of value stepping up to a Raptor. Especially with inevitable ADMs.

I wouldn't necessarily call the GM 2.7 engine offerings significantly more powerful base engines.

WT/Base 2.7 - 237hp / 259 ft lbs tq

Turbo Plus 2.7 - 310 hp / 390 ft lbs tq

High Output Turbo - 310 hp / 430 ft lbs tq

Ford 2.3 Ecoboost - 270/275 hp / 310 ft lbs tq (87 octane)

300 hp / 325/330 ft lbs tq (93 octane)

That is fairly comparable to the GM turbo plus and clearly let's not forget the GM engine is bigger displacement.

Outside of the WT Base 2.7 engine I'm going to probably believe those power ratings aren't achievable without 91 or above octane... especially the HO #'s

Also I dont believe EPA has released submissions yet regarding mpg ratings for this engine...and although I'm not expecting significantly worse ratings then most mid size trucks I'm probably willing to bet you'll find eventually on a tracking site like fuelly the GM engine falls shy of the same mpg ratings as the Ecoboost.

I do believe ford may make a tweak to the 2.3 but they really don't need to...plus you can grab a tune if you need it.

Lastly in terms of useable power even the HO 2.7 GM engine with 430 ft lbs torque has a towing limit of 7700 lbs...just 200 lbs more then the Ranger at 7500 lbs.

I'm still digging 2.3 and 10 speed combo

They are driving the new GM twins around Wentzville at their assembly plant. They do look pretty sharp. Not trading my truck anytime soon, though.

The Ranger Raptor will no doubt look very impressive inside and out and will probably be incredibly fun to drive with gobs of power to spare.

But I'm willing to bet in relation to a regular ranger it will suffer from a usability stand point on towing capacity and payload....the bigger engine and enhanced suspension.. possible lift...wheel and tire package will all rob from towing capacity and payload....just look at how a F150 Raptor compares in this sense to a normal F150.

But this is not the market the ranger raptor will be appealing to.

Correct.

For some folks towing is a necessity. For others an afterthought.
