Here is my latest project, and Western Field 550 (Mossberg 500). I have a really nice custom Remington 870 Police Magnum that's just too pretty to chuck around, and I want something I can throw in the truck and keep in the bedroom. So I scored this for $82 plus shipping.

So far I've sourced a 18.5" barrel for it (with Mossberg heat shield), a sling, and sling mounts. I've also started breaking it down for a deep cleaning and a refinishing.

Just picked this up on Monday.
CZ Custom Accu Shadow. Not go keen on the blue but it did come with the stock czc black grips.

Will go great with my AO1-LD and CZ Custom 97B.

Hahahaha my wife is going to murderize me.

I had the barrel leftover from this gun:

I won a cut up Mossberg 500 minus the barrel for $62. I also scored a stripped Mossberg receiver for $65.

I stripped the old, nasty, dried on cammo tape off the barrel, scrubbed it with steel wool to get off the crusty dry tape residue, and...

...cut it down to 20"! I then drilled and tapped it for 5-40 threads, touched up the bluing, and installed a TruGlo sight. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

I can't wait for the parts and receiver to get in. I'll have two Mossberg 500 shotguns, all because I just had to do something with the extra barrel! ?

I did a full metal refinishing / re-bluing and stock refinish on a Remington 870 when I went through the Colorado School of Trades gunsmithing program.....it looked great when I was finished, but it was a nasty mess with all that old camo duck tape....I swore I'd never do one of those again. I commend you on taking it on :like:

Springfield Armory Prodigy. Everything you heard about it is true(FINICKY). I only got it because I've been interested in a 9mm 1911 & gift card I received thru work paid for most of it(less than $100 out of pocket). In order to install a RMR I have to buy a plate out of pocket & I think it was $130 or something like that. Ridiculous. I'm not a fan of Springfield Armory. My Glock came with 4 different plates for different red dots.

I tested with different ammo & I think it was aluminum case 9mm it jammed nearly 100% of the time. It is the most unreliable centerfire I have ever seen in person. lol

Aluminum cased ammo is VERY finicky in most guns. The case tends to swell and cause failure to extract issues.

Also, MOST 2011 platforms require you to pay extra for the mount plates. $120 to $200 is not uncommon.

Break that thing in by hand cycling the slide a couple hundred times while watching TV, and then with some 124 gr brass cased QUALITY ammo. I bet it'll impress you then!

You can send that to either Briley or Hayes Custom Guns in Texas and they will have it functioning 100% in no time. The Prodigy is one of the cheapest attempts at an entry to the double stack 1911 or "2011" market. They get the price down by using a few cheap poorly fitted parts and mass production on a platform that was meant for more hand fitting. I have seen examples from Briley and Hayes that would easily be competition reliable after they worked them over....and the trigger would be drastically improved as well! Ben Hayes at Hayes Custom Guns is who I would probably send you to.

I won't say one of the cheapest attempts. There are a handful out now that come in much lower quality wise (Turkish too!). When they first released thr Prodigy, they were VERY plagued with QC issues, but they got 'em running.
